Bella68 (38), Alabama, USA Sep 26, 2008 I really enjoyed this. Poured from a bottle. Once I took a look and examined it, it looked like a root beer. This was my first impression. Once I tried it, I thought, "Wow. Not bad at all". Very easy to drink and smooth with no strong, bitter aftertaste. Medium bodied, rather malty. jujubeast6000 (768), Houston, Texas, USA Sep 24, 2008 (Draft @ FS, HOU). Pours a very dark red-brown body, somewhat transparent. Big frothy off-wn. Funky spicy aroma, maltiness, dark fruit. Dark fruity musty taste, maybe like over-ripe bananas. Grapey. Malty. Fizzy. Good. scotch4281 (39), Hollywood, Florida, USA Sep 22, 2008 I like this one. Its very light in taste for a darker beer. Also, it is very malty. I’m glad a found a bar that has something a little different so I know this will be my fall back there. thornecb (1734), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Sep 20, 2008 Pours mahogany into a shaker. Coca cola head. Dark caramel aromas. Dry and crisp from front to back. Not much in the flavor department but not obtrusive. DarkElf (2681), La Jolla, California, USA Sep 16, 2008 10-Sep-08 (12-oz bottle: BevMo in La Jolla, CA) This beer pours a fleeting off-white head that looks rather stark sitting on top of a dark-brown body. The aroma of toasted bread hits the nose, but also includes a fair amount of corn and a touch of metal as well. The entry is malty, pleasantly toasty, gently roasty, and lightly sweet, but the flavors drop off quickly for a bland finish. A slight sourness adds a balancing layer to the sweet, malty underbelly. Hops are very light in flavor, noticeable only in the finish, and bitterness is appropriately light. Medium in body with noticeable thinning in the finish. Carbonation is moderate and somewhat prickly on the tongue. The thin ring of foam leaves no lacing on the glass. This is about what I expect from imported Warsteiner: an okay dunkel with characteristics suggesting mass production. In a way, it is reminiscent of some Mexican dark beers, and that is a sad statement. Drinkable but uninteresting, so not worth getting again. SSSteve (2042), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Sep 13, 2008 rusty brown with a small white head. malty aroma with some light roast. flavor is pretty watery with some sweet syrupy toffee and and hint of nuts. not really what i expect from a dunkel. light bodied. ChainGangGuy (2522), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Sep 12, 2008 Updated: Sep 13, 200812 oz. bottle purchased at Total Wine in Kennesaw, Georgia. Best Before: Jan 23 09.
Appearance: Pours a clear, dark brown body with a thin, fizzy, but still slightly creamy off-white head.
Smell: Pale malts in the nose with supporting notes of spicy hops, stale nuts, and a very light vinous fruitiness.
Taste: Pale maltiness with light tastes of nutty molasses and honey. Very minor hints of apple and cherry fruitiness. Faint spicy hops and bitterness. A touch sour at times. Finishes relatively crisp.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation, though it’s a bit fizzy.
Drinkability: Never immensely flavorful or exciting, but it is quite drinkable, I’ll give it that much. jeremytoni (1067), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA Sep 10, 2008 From a bottle poured a brown color with a fair amount of head. Kind of watery malty flavor with a quick finish.
