thooper41 (384), Oregon, USA Feb 24, 2008 12oz bottle: pours dark brown with a quick dissipating off white head, aroma of slighty sweet roasted malt, flavor has some roased malt some caramel and a slight bit of chocolate. not a bad beer. idbowman82 (62), Painesville, Ohio, USA Feb 23, 2008 A good beer...and a good value for its price. It poured smith with a medium-lage head, and was a very deep brown. The aroma was that of slightly sweet malt and maybe some hints of honey. Flavor was much the same...the consistency was a bit thinner than expected, but it finished very clean. It won’t knock your socks off, and there are certainly better German dunkels, but this is by no means a bad brew. LinusStick (1831), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 22, 2008 This is a very tasty dunkel. Aroma of roasted malt and hint of bitter coffee. Pour was beautiful. Deep dark brown with a puffy 1 finger off white/tan head. Taste was nice and light but with a strong roasted malt flavor. A hint of toffee in the aftertaste that leaves a bitterness after the swallow. Easy to drink and delicious. I may use this as a beer to convert BMC drinkers. moseslikesbeer (183), conestoga, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 20, 2008 bottle. aroma of malts and hops. dark amber color with a very small off white head. tastes very yeasty and hoppy. kind of malty but not really. really has a watery aftertaste that I don’t care for. not real sure about what a Dunkel is to taste like so maybe it’s watery? this brew is ok. it had great lacing and looked great but the taste is thin and boring. so far I’m not too big on Warsteiner but I’ve only had two. lovemyipas (420), sw burbs, Illinois, USA Feb 20, 2008 pours dark brown with a two finger fluffy brown head. aroma is toasted caramel malt with a little hops. has a light to medium body with good lacing and carbonation. flavor is the same as aroma but more toasted malt than caramel. the flavor is also a bit stronger with some grass and hay. as it warms the aroma catches up to the flavor ratings wise. not bad i guess. donteatpoop (124), Youngstown, Ohio, USA Feb 17, 2008 Warsteiner Dunkel. Where do I begin? I bought it once by accident; but as the great Bob Ross would have said, it was a "happy accident". I’ve had the pleasure of drinking this dunkel in both bottles and on tap. Needless to say it is best on tap. It has a rich full body and a nice dark hue to it. A friend of mine’s father is head of a local german heritage club here in Youngstown, and he believed so much in this beer that he fought tooth and nail with the council to approve this be sold there. The council was against it because it is a relatively new brewery, but after tasting it they could not deny that it deserved a place. This beer goes down silky-smooth and sits well in the stomach. One of the best dunkels you can purchase in the states; definately worth the price. brew4fun (167), West Virginia, USA Feb 17, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours very dark brown, thin off-white head immediately fell to a thin ring. Very little aroma, but what was there was chocolate-like. Thin body, sweet with dry finish. Muted taste of chocolate malt, little bitterness. Overall perception is a "clean dark lager" as stated. Very drinkable, but no real "wow" factor. Crafty07 (391), Florence, Kentucky, USA Feb 16, 2008 Just your basic excellent German dunkel, nothing exotic or extraneous, even the commercial description is simple six word sentence. But it’s hard to improve on what is said, "a...clean dark lager"
Yep, that covers it. Excellent session beer, you could do much worse.
