afireinside96 (807), Mountville, Pennsylvania, USA Jan 23, 2008 absolutely beautiful beer. a dark amber color with a beige head. I couldn’t stop holding it up to the light to look through it. smells nicely of caramelized malts. drinks very smooth and feels almost delicate in your mouth. flavor isn’t quite as effective as the appearance, but nice, just nothing special. long bitter finish. nice lace too. dchmela (1406), Orlando, Florida, USA Jan 16, 2008 Pours reddish black with a little head that goes away quickly. Aroma is malty, caramel malt and hint of chocolate. Taste is light and malty with hints of chocolate. Finishes lighter than most dunkels, very drinkable. I am not a huge fan of Warsteiner, but i would drink more of this. Soonah (900), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Jan 15, 2008 Poured somewhere between dark copper and brown. The head was white to off-white and was one-finger tall. Quickly dissipating, it left no lacing. The aroma was mild chocolate, sweet malt and even a bit of grape soda. The flavor was light chocolate, roasted, nutty malt and again a tiny bit of that grape soda. The mouthfeel was actually nice and the finish was clean. Drinkable if unremarkable. CaptBier (301), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Jan 13, 2008 Dark in apperance with lighter tan head that dsiappears quickly. Thin bodied, not a heavy beer. Malty with mild hops. Any noticable flavor would be nuts. Not an extraordinary beer by any means. The Germans can do much better!
tympanic (50), Alabama, USA Jan 9, 2008 Poured a thin spiral galaxy of white foam over a cola-black medium-bodied dunkel. Aromas of straw and faint ginger. Tastes mildly malty and feels lightly carbonated. Good with a meal, but not necessarily great alone. rederic (1787), montréal, Quebec, Canada Jan 9, 2008 500ml can, dark brown color, with a beige head, toasty, biscuity malt nose, with some toffeeish and caramelized accents, hint of chestnut nuttiness in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a toasted, caramelized malt, cookie dough character, with an earthy grainy note, with a subtle coffee accent, a faint nutty and fruity flavor, leading towards a malty, lingering hop bitterness finish. ZiggyG (131), Gladstone, Oregon, USA Jan 9, 2008 A friend of mine had a fridge full of these over Christmas and I partook in a few. Color me impressed. Pours dark nutty-brown with a nice dark tan head. Smells of light-roast and rye bread. Has a nice strong malt flavor that I can only describe by calling thick. The mouthfeel is pretty medium but something about the flavor makes it feel chewy in a nice sort of way. Overall this is a quality offering. jlf278 (250), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jan 8, 2008 Bottle pours with almost no head, Nice unusual deep chestnut hue. Smells of old socks. Tastes better than old socks, but with much room for improvement. Starts off nice and mellow with subdued sweet malt and some herbal flavors. Finishes vegetal with some tin and yeast = unpleasant. Can’t really recommend this at all, for once I prefer the blond lager.
