Color me impressed. Pours dark nutty-brown with a nice dark tan head. Smells of light-roast and rye bread. Has a nice strong malt flavor that I can only describe by calling thick. The mouthfeel is pretty medium but something about the flavor makes it feel chewy in a nice sort of way. Overall this is a quality offering. jlf278 (254), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA
| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jan 8, 2008 Bottle pours with almost no head, Nice unusual deep chestnut hue. Smells of old socks. Tastes better than old socks, but with much room for improvement. Starts off nice and mellow with subdued sweet malt and some herbal flavors. Finishes vegetal with some tin and yeast = unpleasant. Can’t really recommend this at all, for once I prefer the blond lager. jimel001 (34), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 6, 2008 For some reason, this is way better than the regular Pilsner version. I know that it’s dark and therefore it should be more flavorable but still the difference is amazing. I really enjoy this beer and would recommend it on tap in particular. rwgould (58), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Smells strongly of malt and hops. Tastes strongly of malt, with notes of nuts. Palate is smooth but the carbonation leaves your tongue tingling. DrZao (97), Houston, Texas, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 4, 2008 Bottle. Transparent brown with minimal head. Slight maltiness mixed with skunky lager aroma. Mildly malty flavor, with balanced hops. I agree that there is not much in the way of distinct flavors here. Refreshing but nothing special. Dark beer with light flavor especially for dunkel. Find the warsteiner flavor interesting: not skunky but moving in that direction, easy to drink but defininative slightly malty nuttiness that sticks with you. Like it, but not much in the dunkel department. johndavidj99 (123), Township, Maine, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 9/20 | Jan 2, 2008 Updated: Mar 1, 2008Dark in appearance with lighter tan head that disappears quickly. Thin bodied, not a heavy beer. Malty with mild hops. Any noticeable flavor would be nuts. Not an extraordinary beer by any means. The Germans can do much better! | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jan 1, 2008 Jan. 2006 - Pour was obviously a very dark brown color, with smallish head. Roasted aroma was there, but not overwhelming. The most prominent feature of this beer was the very, very carbonated mouthfeel. Flavor was very mild, which I didn’t mind so much since I’m not a big dunkel fan. But I could see how a real German beer aficionado could be left wanting more.
