keoki182 (305), West Bend, Wisconsin, USA Dec 28, 2007 Clear mahogany with little off-white foam. Aroma reminds me of St Pauli Girl Dark...grassier than I expected and no roasty aroma present at first smell. Make no mistake though; it smells nice! The taste is unique: more tart than I was expecting and a little bitter. There is some candy sweetness present; maybe cocoa. It has that distinct St Pauli Girl flavor I always notice too...I’m thinking it must be a German lager aroma and flavor I’ve noticed rather than St Pauli Girl. All in all, Warsteiner Dunkel is decent, but give me a more robust and roasty dark lager anyday. checkmatei1 (629), Willow Grove, Pennsylvania, USA Dec 27, 2007 Bottle: Dark Brown in color but not very thick. Aroma was that of roasted caramel. Flavor was smooth and easy with hints of chocolate, caramel, coffee malts. I enjoyed this beer. JohnnyZ (80), USA Dec 26, 2007 I love German creations. This one is good. Dark, tasty and drinkable. Quality brew. Beer Snob (378), Ontario, Canada Dec 25, 2007 Thin and metallic. A hint of some herbal notes, but basically brown macro swill. Swalden28 (1439), McKinney, Texas, USA Dec 20, 2007 Updated: Feb 22, 2009Pours a clear brown with copper hue, beige head. Aroma of some sweet malt, some chocolate, and some dark roast. Flavor is very much the same. Mouthfeel is light-medium body, high carbonation. Overall, kinda light in the flavor depatment and somewhat watery, bu not half bad....Easy drinker. bhensonb (4182), Woodland, California, USA Dec 20, 2007 Draft at Gustav’s, Portland, Or. Aroma of dark roasted malt. Deep brown color with a dissipating off-white head; medium body. Sharp carbonation. Noble hops match the malt. Pretty tasty. In the finish the malt tends to dominate, but the hops build and persist. Very good dunkle in a light sort of way. Nice bitter into the finish. hayden1215 (305), Ohio, USA Dec 14, 2007 Brown/Ruby in color with small beige head. The aroma is a little sweet, notes of carmel and nuts. Herbal notes as well. Taste is medium sweet, soft, malty. Not bad, but not what I was looking for or expecting in a dunkel. JohnBarleycorn (390), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 14, 2007 Can. Dark-brown appearance with minor translucency. Vague aroma of chocolate malt and a drop of molasses as the beverage warms. Quite drinkable and easygoing, with smooth chocolate flavour and light cream-coffee finish. A simple, enjoyable dark lager.
