Pours a deep redish brown, just like cola, with a small light-brown head. Smells mostly of malts and sweet things. The taste is very big on sweet roasted malts, with some other sweet elements thrown in, I almost tasted some berries in there. It’s somewhat well rounded off by some bitterness in the finish, but I found that to be a little weak and inconsistent, though the roasty malt body is pretty tasty. Not a very big mouth-feel, with low to medium carbonation. Not bad over-all, I’m sure there’s plenty of better examples of this style, but I’m glad to see the LCBO seems to alomost be expanding their horizons. A good ’go-to’ beer as it’s always very well priced and well worth it.

Smell of malt & bread.
Tastes of malt, and a bit of a yeasty feel. Finishes a bit sweet, not bad.
Not the "biggest" dunkel I have had, but, not a bad session beer at all. Almost seems as if the flavors were tweaked back.

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 17, 2007 Pours a clear mahogany brown with a thin fizzy head. Aroma is the epitimy of grassy, with some sweet malt notes. Flavour has some caramel malt sweetness, with a nutty middle, pretty bland finish, and a thin watery mouthfeel hinder this beer. | 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 16, 2007 500 ml can - pours a deep mahogany with a large but short-lived tan head. Slightly metallic German hop character in the nose, with just a touch more caramel notes than the regular Warsteiner. Flavour much the same, and the slightly sweeter quality derived from the darker malt is the only thing that sets this apart from a whole lot of Euro-lagers. Serviceable, sessionable - yes, but is this a good example of the style? I would say no, this is far too thin, and I would take the local and far tastier Denison’s dunkel over this anyday. unclemattie (2401), Georgia, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Oct 15, 2007 330mL bottle. Deep brown color. Khaki, foamy head. Aroma of rich malts. Sweet aroma followed by grassy hop scent. Roasted malt flavor. Very sweet toffee. Watery body dominates the late hitting finish. Not much bite... mostly sweet malts. Could use more of a roasty malt body. Forgetable. MI2CA (1266), Noblesville, Indiana, USA

Pours thin black with a small head and decent lacing. Flavor matches aroma. Palate is thin. Nothing special, but better than BMC. Cryotek (206), Pawtucket, Rhode Island, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Oct 13, 2007 On tap at Redlefsen’s in Bristol RI. Right off the bat i was amazed how much better this was than the pilsner. But i think its just preference in styles for me. A very dark nut color. Slight caramel aroma, sweet initial taste, and then maltier finish. Easy to drink i enjoyed it a lot after having some lighter beers first. CasperQuaffer (142), Casper, Wyoming, USA
