a little smoky
overall not too bad, but not really good, although i admit this is not at all my style. Slacks (480), Bolton, Ontario, Canada Jan 28, 2007 Draught @ West 50, Mississauga, ON: Brown in colour, much more transparent and light in colour than I’d expected. A thin head that soon disappeared. The aroma was pleasing, quite a bit of roasted malt, some black licorice. The taste was surprisingly subdued, almost bland, very watery. Elements of those roasted malts and licorice, but all hidden away. Disappointing, I had high expectations. strangaj (229), West Chester, Ohio, USA Jan 27, 2007 A dark clear brown. Not much to the aroma, but I suppose a bit of roast flavor. Not much to the taste either, but a hint of maltiness and suprisingly light. I could drink this all night, but it really doesn’t have much to it in the way of flavor or body. Nothing special. BeerPrince (1701), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Jan 24, 2007 Dark, clear brown. Nose is slightly malty with rye bread whiffs. Flavour is roasty with some bread and caramel. Finishes a tad sticky. Nice simply easy drinker. IrishBoy (2685), Bakersfield, California, USA Jan 22, 2007 Bottle; Nose of roasted malts with some vanilla notes;Cherry-walnut colored with a medium glass-lacing head; flavor is caramel, roasty malt with a small smole note. rman18 (200), South Amboy, New Jersey, USA Jan 16, 2007 As Borat would say NICE!
Great on the palate... Good taste and goes down too easy. Keep the beer flowing! graham515 (420), Houston, Texas, USA Jan 14, 2007 Very dark pour with very little head. Initial taste was warm with a little bit of sweet malt coming through, followed by a nice bitter crisp BeerBelcher (930), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jan 7, 2007 This beer is commonly available in the US, but I thought it a fairly good example of a dunkel weiss, given a fairly limited amount of experience with the style.
Pours a copper-colored body with a good amount of what I’ll call "mainstream beer" head on it, which fades fairly quickly.
Aroma is faint, but is slightly sweet and a bit spicy (maybe cinammon?).
Taste is caramel malt, a touch of souriness, and a bit of oakiness. In my memory, this is fairly typical for the dunkel style.
Mouthfeel is not thin, but is not overpoweringly sticky. I found this beer fairly drinkable, and on those times when I want something very malty (I should add, in the interest of full disclosure, that I’m usually looking for something hoppy), I would not rule this out.
