ratman197 (3137), Arvada, Colorado, USA Apr 29, 2006 Bottle poured a clear dark brown with a small tan head. Aromas of toasted malt, hint of chocolate and light carmel. Palate was light bodied and crisp. Flavors of toasted malt and carmel, light bitterness with a crisp clean finish. RCL (1443), Waltham, Massachusetts, USA Apr 23, 2006 Awfully light on flavor. Not bad, but pretty mediocre as German beers go. Light malt and a hint of hops. Agree with frankenkitty on the touch of vegetal flavor. frankenkitty (1900), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Apr 23, 2006 Best by 06.JUN.2006 05a33</br>
Clear sepia/cola brown with a thin cream-colored head. Light metallic notes and a touch of weak coffee in the aroma with caramel underpinnings and light sour vegetables. Stale caramel flavor with a sour finish. I fear this may be past its prime regardless of the fact that we’re well within the drinkability window.

bubbleflubber (885), Collinsville, Virginia, USA Apr 18, 2006 Pours deep, dark brown with a toamy tan head. Unique aromas of kidney beans and southwest seasonings. Flavor was nice... a clean, sweet caramel malt with a barely noticeable bitterness on the backend of the pull. Almost reminded me of a sweet nut-brown ale. Everything comes together nicely, with mildly sweet aftereffects mingling around with a light astringency, bitterness growing in the finish. A nice medium-caramel mouthfeel accompanies the whole experience, and trust me, the experience begs another! Very well-balanced brew. vyvvy (2023), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA Apr 17, 2006 Pours dark brown / amber with a tannish head. Arorma is toasted musty malt. Medium bodied with light carbonation - some oily aspects as well. Taste is roasted malts, oatmeal aspects then dark caramel flavor. Finish has a little bit of a hop bite, but it is mainly the malt that lingers through. Light bit of astringency on the finish. An okay beer, but I wouldn’t seek it out. mj (4971), Colorado, USA Apr 14, 2006 Bottle. Toasted, starchy oatmeal and dusty malt nose. Slightly prickly up front, rolls over the tongue a little caustic in texture, slightly sweet up front with a slightly spoiled taste over the middle, but smoothing out in the finish, leaving a oat, toast and (mildly) charred maple resin. jzzbassman (838), New Albany, Mississippi, USA Apr 12, 2006 Other than just not looking good in a glass the 2x I tried this weekend. Toasted malt, clean, without the artificial caramel flavor I find in so many dunkels. All around very well made. iratherbe (255), Marlton, New Jersey, USA Apr 9, 2006 Pretty good. Thought it would be a darker version of their pils and while it is it does have more. Nice brown body w/ a tinge of tan in the head. Some malty sweetness balanced okay w/ a light hop presence. Not anything over the top, but well enough for what it is.
