WisconsinBeer (514), St Paul, Minnesota, USA Dec 6, 2005 Clear brownish red, almost no head to speak of. Light bodied with moderate carbonation. Roasted caramel malt and coffee flavors. Hint of hop bitterness on the back end. Tastes like a good session beer to me. KSS (102), Plymouth, Minnesota, USA Nov 29, 2005 Mug at Old Chicago had no head, but this probably shouldn’t be held against the beer. Nice clear brown color. Toasted malt taste that gives way to molasses and coffee finish. Sweet thick palate. jimmyh221 (157), Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, USA Nov 28, 2005 A bit of a carmel taste. Does not have the bitter finish. However, the taste is not as smooth as I would like. avalancher34 (38), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Nov 20, 2005 I’ve found this Dunkel to be more flavorful on tap rather than in the bottle, but both ways are somewhat dissapointing. I love the appearance of this, but the taste is somewhat of a letdown with almost sour notes of caramel/maple. ElBorracho (472), Chicago, Illinois, USA Nov 16, 2005 Bottle. Pours dark brown with a small tan head that quickly fades to a thin film. Aroma is of malts and nuts with a funky sourness to it that seemed a little off. Taste is of malts and herbal tea followed by mild hops. Not a negative brew but my scratch will be better spent elsewhere. gearbike (413), West Bloomfield, Michigan, USA Nov 16, 2005 Dark pour with small head. Looks rich but taste is rather light and nondescript. A little sweet carmel with a bitter side but not much. pintbypint (1002), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Nov 13, 2005 355ml brown bottle split with gilvanblight. Dark brown in colour, thin layer of white surface foam. Almost no aroma, slight dark malt notes if anything. Taste was dark malt with slight roast bite. Thin body, high carbonation. kfarrnd (112), Oldsmar, Florida, USA Nov 11, 2005 Tap at Oktoberfest in Oldsmar. Poured out of the pitcher a nice dark brown with a bit of red and had a large tan head, but I think that was because they had just tapped the keg. The aroma was sweet caramel malt. The flavor was mostly sweet malt laced with caramel, chocolate and a bit of coffee even. It was medium bodied on the palate, with the right amount of carbonation. My rating may be a little high because we drank far too many of these as we enjoyed a great Oktoberfest celebration. I’ll look forward to it again next year.
