In a blind tasting I would never guess this was a dunkel nor do I think I could distinguish this from the same brewer's pale lager/pilsner. Thus, I pause to worry whether they used dark malts at all in the brewing of this. For me not even a hint of caramelized melanoidiny flavors. Is it just caramel color added? On its own merits, a mediocre beer. Light somewhat adjuncty malts, a fizz of grassy hops near the finish, which is thin and near empty. Forget it. vyvvy (2068), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 17, 2006 Pours dark brown / amber with a tannish head. Arorma is toasted musty malt. Medium bodied with light carbonation - some oily aspects as well. Taste is roasted malts, oatmeal aspects then dark caramel flavor. Finish has a little bit of a hop bite, but it is mainly the malt that lingers through. Light bit of astringency on the finish. An okay beer, but I wouldn’t seek it out. patrick767 (2051), fort wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 9, 2006 bottle - Pours brown with a moderate head. The smell is mostly roasted malts. The smooth, moderately thick palate brings in the nice roast malt flavors in this simple but fairly tastey beer. It’s not great, but it is a solid session beer. cheapdark (2047), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA

Nice dark beer with a transparent sight. Very smooth while drinking out of my steelers mug. Finish has a little lasting slight malt or hop. bitbucket (2036), Kirkland, Washington, USA

The body is light with soft carbonation. Taste is nutty, with hay, caramel and a bit of vanilla in the somewhat watery finish. Angeloregon (2033), Portland, Oregon, USA

Faint malty grain aroma with a small hoppy spice. Very smooth with hints of chocolate and sweet biscuits. Nothing stands out about this beer, but sometimes you just want a mild dark brew like this. lb4lb (2011), Austin, Texas, USA
| 0.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 1/10 | 2/5 | 2/10 | 1/5 | 2/20 | Aug 9, 2007 Dark maroon pour with almost no head. Smell was skunky, medicinal band aid and was more than likely really bad. Taste was plastic like, malt, and medicinal. Complete drain pour on this one, and one of the worst I’ve had. Surprised this one was spoiled...
