Poured out the color of brown shoe polish, with a minimal white head on it. Aromas are of roasted malts, some yeastiness, and not much else. I can barely detect a smattering of hops, but it is fleeting. Tastes are of malts, some coffee notes, yeast, and a slight, but quickly disappearing note of hops. Slightly bitter tasting, but it’s more from the malts than the hops. Mouth feel is smooth enough and the finish slightly bitter, but this is essentially a macro dunkel. Drinkable enough but not complex. rodenbach99 (708), Longueuil, Quebec, Canada

Pours very dark brown and clear with little head that dissipates to a very thin to nonexistant line of foam. Hop aroma is lightly floral but is too mild to be noteworthy. Very malty and grainy, an exceptionally smooth mouthfeel with no hint of bitterness or roughness. Some coffee and caramel like undertones. A good well rounded and drinkable session beer. bluemeow76 (693), Lewis Center, Ohio, USA

Roasty and caramel dominate. Tastes very roasty with caramel and coffee notes. Very very good. Well balanced despite the presence of afformentioned flavors and scents. Pretty good for a lager. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 19, 2007 Updated: Oct 28, 2008500ml can into a tall German Lager glass. Pours a deep redish brown, just like cola, with a small light-brown head. Smells mostly of malts and sweet things. The taste is very big on sweet roasted malts, with some other sweet elements thrown in, I almost tasted some berries in there. It’s somewhat well rounded off by some bitterness in the finish, but I found that to be a little weak and inconsistent, though the roasty malt body is pretty tasty. Not a very big mouth-feel, with low to medium carbonation. Not bad over-all, I’m sure there’s plenty of better examples of this style, but I’m glad to see the LCBO seems to alomost be expanding their horizons. A good ’go-to’ beer as it’s always very well priced and well worth it.
