Smells almost like honey wheat bread. Tastes like a hearty bread with some sweetness and hops. Simple but good. amx1970390 (466), Southampton, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 20, 2002 I actually thought this was pretty good, my expectations were low. The color and appearance was dark cola like. Flavor was light malt and slightly sweet. Definately light for a Dunkel. Went well with German food.

Good choice.***Re-rate: On a second go-round, I realize just how awesome this beer is. Creamy and dark...so good. Jedsbrew (465), Rhineland, Missouri, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Dec 29, 2001 I’d like to say some nice things about this beer, but to me there is nothing that stands out, other than a faint sour taste in the finish. Tastes stale, but the date on the bottle says it is good til July 02. I don’t know but surely they can do better than this. biggcb (464), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Apr 9, 2007 Bottle. Pours a clear brown with a small tan head. Aroma is on the yeasty/bready side, with some malt tones. Flavor is much the same. A bit on the thin side, but rather drinkable. zappafan99 (462), South Carolina, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 8, 2008 Taste 7/8. Have had this a dozen times. Looks: Brown to black body, with a small off white foam. Aroma: Muted straw malt. Soft water. Taste: Warsteiner with a roasted straw presence. Mild hop cleans up after the stickiness and soft water. A little sweet. kumite56 (461), Cordova, Tennessee, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 21, 2003 Deep mahogony color and clear with a tan rapidly diminishing head. Hint of hopps in nose but primarily malty. Tast is malty. Medium bodied with a refreshing taste. Not a bad beer and to make it that much better I got it for Father's Day. Decent summertime brew, possible repurchase. garrison (459), Cin. city, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 29, 2004 From a bottle... it poured a thick, long lasting, light tan head and possesed a very pleasant malt aroma. Yes, this is the "Bud" of Germany, an ultra-common workingman’s drink, but it is tasty... however, I’ve been known to overindulge with it before, and it WILL give you a nasty hangover!
