Bland sweetish aromas and caramel flavors. A little salty but finish is actually clean and it’s not bad. michael-pollack (2749), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA

Poured copper/brown in color with a small, off-white head that lasted around the edges. Clear. Lightly sparkling. Flavor is slightly sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of malts, vegetables, nuts, dried leaves, and some caramel. Medium body. Average texture. Nutty, malty finish is a bit cloying. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Jan 21, 2003 This should have been bottled in a green bottle. Perhaps it was just my experience with it, but it was way too sour and skunky tasting. I would not mind trying it again, and hopefully have a better experience. | 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Nov 21, 2002 After a lovely cascade-like head effect, the head burns off and you’ve got yourself a malty lager, with a mild aroma and very few flavors of note. The palate is especially disappointing, being a bit thicker than lager, but watery and dull. Skip this one. IrishBoy (2725), Bakersfield, California, USA

| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 9/20 | Sep 10, 2005 The aroma is sweet with hints of hops and paper. The appearance is chocolate brown and the head is small and goes away fast. The flavor is not bad save the saltiness. Nothing really stands out, except the saltiness, as exceptional good or bad. Its pretty typical for a Dunkel. A caramel sweetness and a roasted malt. The hops have an astringent bitterness that hits you in the finish. Palate is somewhat watery but somehow it avoids being too weak. If you are looking for a really good Dunkel you could do better but it is not a terrible beer. | 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 16, 2008 10-Sep-08 (12-oz bottle: BevMo in La Jolla, CA) This beer pours a fleeting off-white head that looks rather stark sitting on top of a dark-brown body. The aroma of toasted bread hits the nose, but also includes a fair amount of corn and a touch of metal as well. The entry is malty, pleasantly toasty, gently roasty, and lightly sweet, but the flavors drop off quickly for a bland finish. A slight sourness adds a balancing layer to the sweet, malty underbelly. Hops are very light in flavor, noticeable only in the finish, and bitterness is appropriately light. Medium in body with noticeable thinning in the finish. Carbonation is moderate and somewhat prickly on the tongue. The thin ring of foam leaves no lacing on the glass. This is about what I expect from imported Warsteiner: an okay dunkel with characteristics suggesting mass production. In a way, it is reminiscent of some Mexican dark beers, and that is a sad statement. Drinkable but uninteresting, so not worth getting again.
