A little watery at first, but carbonation and texture seemed to improve as I drank. Interesting aroma. Nice and roasty with sweet black licorice notes. Surprisingly refreshing and clean and rather easy to drink. boto (1336), Granby, Connecticut, USA

It doesn’t linger long. There was no real lacing to it. The color is a ruby-tinged brown. The aroma was OK, although not too strong. notes of molasses, caramel, maybe a hint of roastiness. Slightly less than a medium body. The taste was slightly sweet with notes of the caramel and molasses. A hint of hops for balance. Not very exciting, but very drinkable. ampp (150), Cleveland, Ohio, USA

Among dunkels, though, I would lean toward Baltika Dark (a sleeper) or Ayinger Altbairisch Dunkel. jah noth (1017), Rochester, New York, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Apr 8, 2002 decants darkish auburn brunette under a creamy disc of light suds. head lasts approximately as long as death valley frost, but nothing unusual about that, aye? actually fuller aroma than i expected, fresh crust of wheat bread, damp raisins with a splash of rum. but then it’s a bit too mild for the seasoned beer hawks that i know: a melted ice cube flat cola sweetness, moderately brisk, some hop. basically an honest formula, just needs to be boiled down to about twice the density.
