I am familiar with the Warsteiner name but had never tried this particular brew. This one is great. Pours a nice dark dark brown with an above average sized white head. The aroma has a faint hint of caramel and a natural nuttiness. The flavor is wonderfully bold. I wasn’t expecting much from this, so perhaps that is why my opinion of this is much higher than anyone else’s. Overall a great beer especially compared to other beers in its class. aletales (73), , Oklahoma, USA

Good carbonation bite at the first with a cola malt flavor with a bit of floral hops. Finish is just a bit bitter from the hops to provide a nice balance. Papillon (177), Sudbury, Ontario, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 13, 2009 500 mL Can. Deep brown body with a foamy pale beige head that settles to a foamy ring lacing the sides. A very inviting aroma of rich sweet malts with a hint of treacle; it says "good beer!" with an astringent note about it that is likely coming from the hops. Rich dark malts make up most of the flavor with a syrupy innuendo, floral and nutty notes in the aftertaste, and a sweet dark malt finish. Gutes Bier! AlcoholChair (10), Godfrey, Illinois, USA

I had this after tasting Hobgoblin and it didn’t quite match up but wasn’t too far. A dark and smokey taste, not as nutty or fruity. A good rich beer full of flavor. llcooldave (337), San Antonio, Texas, USA

Average carbonation, the head lasted till about 1/3 of the way into drinking. Flavor as almost a bittersweet chocolate with a touch of a sweet aftertaste. Overall I thought it a nice dark beer worthy of more. BeerGestapo (740), Windsor, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 16, 2008 Deep dark brown pour with a healthy head that dissipates quickly. Strong appearance accopmanied by an equally strong aroma. Sweet and malty with caramel and molasses just slightly offset by hints of floral hops. Definitely medium bodied, if not medium to full. Smooth on the tongue, clear of any biting hoppiness. Taste of roasted malt dominates with hints of sweet fruits but overall very mild. scotch4281 (39), Hollywood, Florida, USA
