| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 2, 2007 Pours with a frothy, initially two-finger thick, reasonably tightly beaded, brownish tan colored head that sits atop a beer that shows a brilliantly clear brown beer when held up to the light, but otherwise is an almost black color. The aroma is a nice mix of chocolate, lightly roasted coffee, and dark malt notes. The combination seems a touch sweet smelling, really like a soft dark chocolate with a touch of coffee and malted character. At times the aroma takes on sharper notes of burn grain acidity and roasted grain husks.
The taste is lightly sweet and the beer has quite a bit of body for a 4% ABV beer. It has a soft creamy mouth coating quality to it that compliments a lightly sweet chocolate note. The beer finishes with a bit of espresso-like acidity and some burnt grain notes that add some bitterness to the beer. There are also some sharp notes added by both the carbonation and some bittering hops, though both are second to the dark malt profile. There is a fair amount of chewy malt sugars here; it strikes more of a complex sugar profile (especially with all of the dark malt interactions), than a purely, simple sweetness.
This is a nice Porter. With its low alcohol, and chewy flavors it, it strikes me as a perfect session beer. I wasn’t expecting too much from this beer but am pleasantly surprised.

| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Feb 2, 2007 Updated: Feb 11, 2007With such a great name/slogan, how could a brewer go wrong...but here’s the problem with polygamy: with multiple partners your relationship with each weakens. This is one weak porter. Weak body. Weak carbonation. Weak flavor. (I should add, though, that the charred-firewood smokiness, though weak, had a surprising genuineness to it.) blueduk (118), Eugene, Oregon, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 31, 2006 Deep, clear, red-brown body with a smallish beige head. Aromas of roasted malts.
This porter is surprisingly light on the palate, showing flavor-aromas of roasted coffee and nuts with a bit of caramel. The beer is moderately bitter with a long toasted nut finish. This is a very easy-to-drink porter, and at 4% it’d make for a nice winter session. BrewSquid (45), Plattsburg, Missouri, USA
