Ruby edges when held up to light. Typical roasty aroma with a hint of mocha in there. Flavor of roasted malt, caramel and chocolate. Moderately sweet, light hint of roasted coffee in the finish. Thin, watery body and way overcarbonated and prickly. No lacing or head retention left on the glass. Drinkable, but not worth seeking out. duff (5475), Surrey, Greater London, England
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Aug 7, 2005 Bottle@GBBF. Smooth and chocolatey/caramely, but without any real body or flavour. Nothing really stands, fairly bog standard sort of stuff, but drinkable, just not something i’ll try again. maeib (4748), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England

The aroma is a bit musty and old but some caramel notes come through. The taste is also a bit on the stale side. There is a bit of coffee and it is quite dry, but it struggles to assert itself. harrisoni (6828), Ashford, Kent, England

Dark ruby colour, good taste of a typical porter with good coffee flavours. Not bad at all. DavidP (1743), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jul 24, 2005 Clear-looking dark brown body. Thin tan large-bubbled head. Greasy, bacony chocolate malt aroma. Very thin flavor and palate - dissapointing. Watery coffee malt with some sweet bark notes. Dry and thin. 1FastSTi (2569), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jul 23, 2005 Sampled from a bottle, this beer has to have the coolest marketing ever. Now, if they put a quality beer in the bottle, they’d have a cult classic like Föecking (yes there is a beer called that that used to be made in the Midwest). The aroma is 100% charcoal. It smells almost identical to some sorta meat that was charred. The beer pours to a really dark red with a thin tan head. Decent lacing. The flavor is dark roasted/burnt malts with a bit of charcoal, light molasses, wood. Not offensive, just nothing spectacular. The palate is thin and over carbonated. Not horrible, a 2.7 rating seems low, but this beer just lacked in the flavor and mouthfeel. If they managed to kick that up a notch, then this wouldn’t be so much as a "comedy beer". pinkzambia (989), Boise, Idaho, USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Jul 18, 2005 Bottle: Dark brown with a fluffy, light brown head. Roasted malts with light to average hops. Charcoal was the dominant aroma and taste. The texture is thin and the carbonation is average. The celver name and label are more entertaining than the beer. macguy (145), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 17, 2005 To start with, the label, it’s graphic and the name all rock. The fact that beer is being made in Salt Lake City rocks. Given where it’s made, it doesn’t totally bite. OK, it’s thin and somewhat bland, and the head is embarassing, but it goes down easy and looking at the label makes me smile.
I won’t go looking for more of this, but will be keeping the bottle.
