Commercial Description:
This dark, medium bodied ale offers the drink-ability of a much lighter beer. The inviting chocolate and malty flavors fade into a slightly dry, silky smooth finish. Why have just one? 4.0% alcohol by volume. • 2008 Silver Medal Winner, Brown Porter, North American Brewers’ Association • 2008 Silver Medal Winner, Brown Porter, World Beer Cup • 2006 Silver Medal Winner, Brown Porter, North American Brewers’ Association

Nice label. Reminds me of a typical Friday evening for me in college. Anyway, this is a very drinkable porter... this is both good and bad. Good because it’s very drinkable, thus people who don’t ordinarily drink the heavier stuff will probably enjoy this. However, it’s bad for that same reason-- those of us who enjoy a little kick in our porter will be a little disappointed. Still, a decent brew worthy of a taste. Thanks to Indiana Red for this one!

Bottle Pours a fairly dark brown (for the style) with a small light tan head that dissapears is a moment leaving slight lacing. Aroma is of sweet chocolate and leather. Flavor is a thin smokey woody and slightly of ashtrays. Feel is very thin and carbonation is lively. Aftertaste is that ashtray taste again. Not a particularly good showing.

I first drank this after finishing a ten day long backpacking trip through the Canyonlands in Utah, and hadn’t had a beer in nearly two whole weeks. This tasted absolutely heavenly by those standards, so perhaps I am a little biased. I’ve had it a few times since then to even out that bias a little, but still think it is pretty solid. Some sweet flavors, coffee notes, bread notes, all with a roasty sort of feel to it. Good body, one of my local faves to pick up when I am around the Southwest. Plus it’s funny.

(12 oz bottle, obtained in trade with goldtwins, thanks Larry!) Wow, Porter Lite! This reminds me of the so-called "dark" beers the big boys would put on the market to compete with the craft brewers; It's thin and watery, with a dry "dark" flavor, but it's only lightly dark roasted; Once the watery palate fades away and all you have left is something sitting on the tastebuds, the finish is a bit charred, bitter and quite dry; The malty nose is pretty subdued for a porter, and instead comes across as a brown ale; The color is also like a light brown ale and fully transluscent; Tan head pours to medium size and maintains a thin layer; Some modest lacing here and there; I can easily think of a good reason to "just have one", but you gotta give them a hand for a great name and fantastic marketing slogan; "Bring some home for the wives!" Hehe, funny stuff!

Pours a dark brown, a little light coming through. Tan head, quickly fading. Aroma is Malt, and grapes, choclate and roast. Slick on the palate, not much flavor present. A somewhat pale beer. Very crisp finish. Thanks goes out to Indiana Red for this Brew!

Dark garnet color with a thin, small bubbled head that dissipates quickly. The nose is of roasted malt, caramel and deerarra sugar. Hints of nutmeg and cinnamon. Mouthfeel is thin and watery. My dog is lying in the room near me farting, and that’s throwing my tastebuds off a bit, but I taste the charred malt, some tanins, and a cidery edge I do not like. Finish is fairly dry and astringent.

Pours a transparent black with a light beige head. Bready aromas, roasted grains, and burnt caramel. Nice full body. Some resiny burnt anise flavors along with some nice hoppiness. A solid porter. Great Name too.

This beer blows. It looks nice, but halfway through it I wanted to pour it down the drain. Watery, bland, so boring.
