Commercial Description:
This dark, medium bodied ale offers the drink-ability of a much lighter beer. The inviting chocolate and malty flavors fade into a slightly dry, silky smooth finish. Why have just one? 4.0% alcohol by volume. • 2008 Silver Medal Winner, Brown Porter, North American Brewers’ Association • 2008 Silver Medal Winner, Brown Porter, World Beer Cup • 2006 Silver Medal Winner, Brown Porter, North American Brewers’ Association

12oz bottle, courtesy of Dave. Dark brown body, light tan head the resolves to a thin layer. No real lacing to speak of. Nose of coffee grounds, dark malts, chocolate and some oatmeal flakes. Fore of the tongue is highly acidic and biting, rolling to the back does not help much. Flavor profile is sort of weak and watery, as the nose is. Medium bodied, the high carbonation helps here somewhat, but its still lacking something. Finish is watery, medium length and with some notes of coffee and malts. Disappointing, but at least I can say I tried Polygamy.

This poured a dark brown color with an off white head. Aroma was really weak with scents of roasted malt, a little dark chocolate and coffee. Flavor was very watery for a porter, not much roastedness or burnt flavor, jsut bland. Reminded me much of Yuengling Porter, not good for the style, but really easy drinking.

Bottle, pours dark brown/black with a nice two finger tan head. The aromas are smokey and roasted malt with thin hop notes. Tastes malty at first, then some of the roasted malt comes forward with light coffee flavors. The finish is bitter with a bakers chocolate flavor in the back of the mouth. The beer is fairly light feeling with a light to moderate carbonation. I enjoy it.

12 oz bottle from trade with Puzzl. Thanks! Poured deep brown with a thin layer of tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate and light roasted coffee. Tastes of the same and lightly nutty. Slightly thin on the finish, but it was certainly drinkable.

Very dark amber with a nice tan head. Nice hoppy roasted chocolate taste with a roasty finish. Very, very smooth tasting beer. One of the better porters in my opinion.

Can really only compare this to Belt Brewery’s Pig Ass Porter...no contest, but still enjoyable. Had during 3 hour layover in Salt Lake...wouldn’t turn down if offered to me, plus, has to be one of the cleverest names in breweriana.

Bottle: (Brought home from Utah by my sister and brother-in-law) Pours a deep brown with a ruby hue and a fading tan head. Simple aroma which is predominated by mildly roasted barley and just a touch of cocoa character. Very light feel. The flavor is there but seems dull in a way. Touch of cocoa character in the roasted barley flavor with a later nutty/husky note. It’s not bad but it’s simple and what is there seems muted.
