Commercial Description:
This dark, medium bodied ale offers the drink-ability of a much lighter beer. The inviting chocolate and malty flavors fade into a slightly dry, silky smooth finish. Why have just one? 4.0% alcohol by volume. • 2008 Silver Medal Winner, Brown Porter, North American Brewers’ Association • 2008 Silver Medal Winner, Brown Porter, World Beer Cup • 2006 Silver Medal Winner, Brown Porter, North American Brewers’ Association

A very pleasant porter, especially considering that its 3.2 beer (I realize the description says 4%, but I’m sure I read somewhere that its 3.2%). Nicely flavorful. No aroma to talk about, good or bad. Head was fairly non-existant when I poured it into the glass.

Pours deep garnet with mocha head. The aroma is roasty dark malts, some molasses, a bit of burnt malts and some faint caramel. It gets a faintly vegetable at times. The taste starts with sweet malts mixed with roasty malts followed by some burnt malts too. I get a bit of molasses rounding out the pre finish experience. Into the finish a faint dark fruitiness shows up to add to the mainly roasty malt flavor. Solid tasting brew.

Bottle, courtesy Ibrew2or3. Reddish brown pour, creamy head and thick lacing. Aromas of chocolate and caramel, slight smokiness. Very creamy. Flavor is of roasted notes, chocolate, creamy coffee. Pretty malty. Smooth body, sticky, slightly bitter. Really surprised by this one, it’s damn good.

Bottle courtesy Ibrew2or3. Pours a clear brown amber with a one finger tan head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt. Taste is the same as aroma but less prominent. Medium thin mouthfeel with a mild amount of bitterness. This beer packs alot of aroma and flavor for only having 4%abv. Very good.

Bottled, thanks gws57! A lighter flavored stout with some coffee and salty malts. Not bad, but lacking with the lower alcohol content.

Had this one on draught at the Squatters brewpub in Salt Lake City, Utah. Hazy, opaque reddish brown pour with a thick bubbly head, a mild maltiness, coffee nose, nice malty character with a bit of sweet coffee, soy sauce, barbeque sauce and plum. Good, but the 3.2 kills it.

A decent middle of the road porter. Aroma was average. Nice black coffee with a some hops and roasted malt. Pour was a deep dark brown with a one finger near tan head. Taste was a decent. The chocolate isn’t there, but a nice crispy roasted malt taste with coffee coming through the sinuses and a crisp dry bitter finish. Not bad.

7-3-08 bottle shared with lb4lb thanks to Footbalm
Dark brown black with a decent beige head at first but it doesn’t last long. Smell is musky and earthy roastedness. Flavor is watery and ashy and a touch musky too. Palate is weak and underplayed.
