Commercial Description:
Slightly darker and more body than Totem, Hops lives up to name with a powerful conflagration of hop flavor. This IPA would keep on interplanetary expeditions. For all of its hop persona it remains a balanced beer, with an underlying malt-sweetness to help soften the Hop impact. 13° Plato... 63 IBU's ... 6.2% ABV

on tap-pours a creamy white head that laces with hazy gold color. Aroma is hops. Taste is grapefruit. Good biting, mild hops that carries to a long aftertaste. Good carbonation.

The aroma was hopy, but not terribly strong. The color was a pale yellow with a bit of white head. The different hops seemed to be very well balanced. The aftertaste was much less bitter than the average IPA. Not a bad beer.

(regular version) Lightly hazed golden body with white head. Aroma is medium sweet, grapefruit. Taste is medium sweet, grapefruit. Medium body, some resin. Essentially a grapefruit hop bomb. (6/3/7/4/14)

(cask, made with Crystal hops) Clear golden body with soft white head. Aroma is medium sweet, grapefruit/pine. Taste is the same. Soft medium body with some resin. Preferred to the regular version. (7/3/8/4/16)

Tap@Watch City Brewing, Waltham, Ma. Now this i like, well balanced hoppy IPA. A good malt backbone, toasty, with touches of caramel. Finish is medium bitter, with some juicy grapefruity hops. Nice citrusy, piney finish. Gotta love it!

Strong citrus hop nose with some grainy malts. Hazy yellow gold with decent white head that recedes slowly to ring with excellent lacing. Grapefruit-citrus hops offset the sweet malts and lightly toasty, grainy flavours. Assertive bitterness in the finish. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Hop aroma, flavour and bitterness are lower in the cask version allowing a fruity apricot flavour to emerge, though I can’t say which I prefer and my rating doesn’t change. Sampled at the brewpub with MartinT, muzzlehatch and Rastacouere.

I tried both the tap and the cask version. The cask had a far fruitier aroma, more direct, but the flavours were far too understated in mouth, hence I preferred the tap one which I’m gonna rate here. Citric lemon aroma, limey. The pour is golden, shining and proposes a generous white head, long-lasting. This is not very bitter before swallowing, but it has nice gummy melon characteristic initially in its fruit medley. The mouthfeel is very expressive on tap, moderately carbonated and medium bodied. It is oilier and lifeless on cask. Nice dried lemons, cookies and sharp hops flavours. That’s very aromatic, but not very malty at all despite those biscuity feelings, just a citric hops range display.

On cask : Peppery lemon rinds and miscellaneous citrus fruit flavors make a flavorful, drinkable pint...

On tap : Peppery hops are more prominent and body creamier...This is an all-citrus affair with a quiet, dry ending...

Draft at the brewery: Pours yellow/orange with a smallish white head. Light hop aroma. Flavor is a little short but the more I drank, the better it seemed. Mostly hop flavor, with a bit of grapefruit in the finish. Finishes mildly bitter. Overall, good.
