Mildy roasted caramel malt aroma with a lager profile. Body is sweet with a subtle sugary coffee flavor. Could use some more balance, but a decent dunkel. JPDIPSO (4923), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA
| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jan 6, 2006 Dark brown color with a small thin isle of beige bubbles atop. Caramel and creamed corn aromas. Not quite as bad as it sounds. More different than anything else. After the first taste, sweet weak coffee comes to mind. THere is a mild caramel flavor that over toward the end. Seems like a strong brown ale. Ughsmash (4046), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 29, 2009 On tap at the Delafield location. Poured deep brown with a well-retained, creamy beige head. The aroma picked up soft chocolate and bready notes upfront with a little earth and faint floral hoppage around.. quite enjoyable. The flavor found toasty chocolate, coffee, and lesser molasses surrounded by earthy accents.. hints of smoke on the back.. tasty and well-balanced. Light-bodied with great use of malts in here.. higher carbonation moved it well across the palate.. dry and well-balanced. This was a great surprise! GeneralGao (3057), Iowa City, Iowa, USA
| 1.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 2/10 | 1/5 | 4/20 | Nov 22, 2006 Draught at the brewpub (Downtown Milwaukee location). Clear brown color with thin white head that left no lace. Smelled of brown sugar and milk chocolate. Flavor was similar with a light roasty accent. Unfortunately there was a strange industrial cleaner-like bitterness. Watery mouth feel. Not well done. JK (2961), Richfield, Minnesota, USA

| 1.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 2/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 1/5 | 6/20 | Dec 21, 2004 Rating this as a Schwarzbier because that’s what Water Street Brewery intends it to be. Appearance was deep brown, which looked slightly lighter near the bottom. There wasn’t much of an aroma - only faint traces of molasses. Taste - not so good. It was perhaps the most carbonated beer I’ve ever had - almost like drinking molasses soda water. After the bright beginning with the fizz, it tastes of coffee beans, bland malts and molasses. This brew was also very thin and watery. All in all, this was the most disappointing beer I’ve had from Water Street.
