bb (2088), Martinez, California, USA Mar 12, 2008 Draft. Blackish beer with a tan head. Roasty, coffee, licorice aroma. Coffee, caramel, light chocolate flavor with a bit of spice. Lighter bodied than expected. Lingering roast, coffee, and licorice. One you have to be in the mood for. BrewDad (1657), Olympia, Washington, USA Feb 24, 2008 Pint - Brouwers Café - Seattle, WA
Aroma – Nice malty aroma with some semi sweet chocolate in the nose.
Appearance – Dark brown in color, light head and clear.
Flavor – This was an odd flavor like a brewed chocolate. Had the flavor of a chocolate beer. Interesting to say the least.
Palate – Easy to drink Mouthfeel, Nice chocolate texture, the finish was like a liquid chocolate bar.
Overall – I liked the beer more and more as I drank it. It was over chocolate but it was a good beer. Dry and smooth this was not overly sweet but ore of bakers chocolate added. The hops added to the bittering flavors.
BillKismet (1410), Seattle, Washington, USA Jan 6, 2008 Gorgeous full mahogany color with lucious head. Hop and malt intermingle in the nose, with hops winning out on the palate. Not such a fan of these hop heavy strong red ale winter warmer varieties. Decently crafted. riversideAK (1583), Shoreline, Washington, USA Dec 5, 2007 Tap at Brouwers. Black with thick tan head. Sweet roasty maple/brown sugar aroma. Flavor is roasty with lots of bitterness. Notes of coffee, chocolate, and hops. Finishes dry from both the roasted malts and the hops. Good stuff.
