Revisiting this beer has been a long time coming. This was the beer that sparked my doppelbock enthusiasm over three years ago from this rating when I first had it. I was a little nervous to put my fond memories to the test, but it had to be done...

Deep bronze in color with no activity anywhere else. Aroma is sweet and light - caramel and toasted malts; some peat, brewers yeast and pistachio shells. Flavor... there it is! We’ve got sweet chocolate malts here and now. Some toffee sweetness and caramel accents. Noble hopping plays a nice supporting role. Damn am I glad that this one panned out. Nice, creamy, rich and robust on the palate. This fits nicely in the company of the sweeter dark doppelbocks (Salvator, Capital Dark, etc.) Get it while you can. It took me over three years to have it again.

Dark brown color with a creamy thin tan head. Sweet thick aroma bursting with caramel malt and subtle German hops. Body is thick and slightly syrupy with a thin carbonation and lots of sweet caramely malt. Some dark fruity flavor is also noticeable. A very good doppelbock and the best beer I've had from this restaurant brewery.

I thought that this was an excellent effort. It did not have as much legs as most doppelbocks but it did have a playful side to the palate.

On draught at the brewery/brewpub in Delafield, Wisconsin. Pours a clear copper amber brew with a creamy off-white head that slowly dissipates to a fine film and off-white ring. Aroma of sweet caramel malt, some flowery and citrus hops, a touch of dark berries, and some soy sauce. Taste is medium to full bodied, light carbonation with flavors of raisined caramel malt, some tart berries, flowery hops and a touch of toffee. Finish slightly metallic from the high alcohol with a sweet raisin-like caramel aftertaste.

Copper color with a smaller beige head. Caramel covered figs aroma. Black walnuts and caramel flavors dominate. Nuttiness lingers through to the finish. Slightly thick and oily feel. Some mild cleaner/solvent flavors distract slightly.

Brown Coloring with Frothy Head. Malt and Grapey Aroma. Caramel..Malt..Grapes..Rye...Clean Medium Mouthfeel with a Dry Aftertaste. Very Drinkable.

This one had the expected dark brown color that you still could see through with a minimal tan head. The aroma was a mixture of malt, a little peaty, and a little bit syrupy. The hops are subtle as expected with minimal bitterness. This is good.

Pours a dark brown body with a medium sized tan head. nice retention in the head. A very smooth beer with plenty of chocolate and nutty flavor. Light roasted malts and cinnamon on the nose.
