Tap. Sweet sugary aroma. Very dark brown with little head. A brown sugar flavor - tasted very similar to the Ciney brun I had just before it except with less of the dried fruit notes. Very drinkable.

Tap at “La Brouette” on the Grand Place in Brussels (23 on the beer list; almost all good). Came in a properly labeled thistle glass. Sweet malty aroma (with a hint of sour?). Brown near black color with a good beige tan head. Starts fruity. Moves on to sweet roasted malt. A porter with fruit - no. A "new" Gunnness with fruit - no. Barring an occasional metal note it’s almost light and refreshing. Not at all sticky. That’s it - perhaps a McEwans with all that sticky sweetness removed. It’s quite dry in its way - but the bitter is rather mild. It really is refreshing. Very glad I had it. In memorium de Watneys or something like that. Breweries go away, but labels and recipes move to Stella Artois, or some huge conglomerate or other.

(Bottle 25 cl) Pours a clear, reddish mahogany with a creamy, off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt and....licorice. Fairly full body with plenty of malt - sweet, roasted malt. No real bitterness. A real pleasant winter warmer. 240806

A Mes rate: Draught at Le Cirio. Not much going on really other than plenty of sugary fruit and caramel. Nice clean mouthfeel considering it feels quite thick. Faint alcohol in the nose. Lovely mahogany red colour. The more I drink the more comes through in the flavour. (Just upped to a 7). Plums and molasses and some stoney fruits. Some metal nots let it down a little but a decent beer overall.

Bottled at Delirium, Gothenburg. Pours ruby, with a small white head. Alcohol, candi, caramel and dried fruits in the aroma. The flavor has fruits, dried fruits and candisugar. Full-bodied and sweet mouthfeel. Long sweet and lightly spiced finish. (060824)
