Quack-Duck (1898), Bodensee, Germany May 25, 2008 bottle, traded with derkaro - thanks. Clear dark brown, nearly black colour, large beige head. Malty nose with hints of roasetd malt. Full-bodied, not too sweet but very malty flavour, hints of roasted malt and caramel. Slightly dry and hoppy - well-balanced Schwarzbier. Good. MiP (6019), Flensburg, Germany May 10, 2008 Bottle, 5.1%. The aroma starts off metallic, then turns OK roasted. Clear very dark brown colour. Small tan head. Good roasted flavour, slightly sweet, finishing on a slight liquorice note. Thin mouthfeel as is to be expected. motelpogo (4124), Plzen, Czech Republic Feb 6, 2007 bottled. clear brown. nice aroma of dust and chocolate syrup. some watermelon flaour and caramel. not bad Retorp (2157), Tampa, Florida, USA Nov 24, 2006 Courtesy of Papsoe.
The body is ruddy brown at the bottom of the glass and as the light plays down it gets darker, approaching black, at the top of the glass. The head is a thumb thick, tan and slightly bubbly with a medium rate of recession.
Malt, molasses, stewed raisin and toasty notes in the aroma. Pretty spot on Schwarzbier aroma just lacks intensity.
Steeped malt flavor in the fore is slightly spritzy with lots of raisin and grain flavors. Has a sort of sweet heartiness to it. Different....has some hints of raw or brown sugar. Finishes a little corn-like adjuncty, but not heavily so. Thomas_E (5065), Copenhagen, Denmark Jul 17, 2006 Chestnut colour with a tan head. Malty, light roasted aroma with a vague fruity sweetness. Roasted malty flavor with a light caramel and fruity sweet note.
