Jmichael (633), Asheville, North Carolina, USA May 14, 2009 light on the aroma, looked good full and dark, sweet and inviting, not too dry, good with food, light smooth palate, and overall pretty good porter fluffy (229), Florida, USA May 11, 2009 on tap at Tuepelo Honey Cafe in Asheville, NC. mahogany brown with a decent ivory head. aroma is of coffee and toffee. flavor is cocoa, malt, dark sugars and nutty. finish is clean and surprisingly bright given the style. honestly one of the best porters ive ever had. dkachur (2316), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Mar 6, 2009 Served on draft at the brewery. Pours a reddish brown color with a medium head. Poor retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and bitter hops. Taste is roasted malts, chocolate and very faint hops. Medium bodied. tronraner (1905), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Jan 6, 2009 Draught at the brewery. Pours blackish brown with smallish beige head. The aroma is rich chocolate, some dark fruit, and bits of vanilla and toffee. The flavor is bitter chocolate, a little bit of roast and nuts, and some woodiness. The finish is lightly ashy. This is pretty tasty. Butters (1622), Virginia, USA Jan 1, 2009 Draft at the brewery. Same great dark brown body and even bigger brown head as the oatmeal stout. Dark fruit aroma was nice. But the flavor had something fruity and sour with biitter coffee flavors. Roast coffee grounds finish. Just cant figure out the sour apple twinge in the flavor. I doesn’t seem like anyone else picked up on it so it could be just something off on my palate. DrBayern (1135), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Nov 21, 2008 Draft at the brewery on 11/1/08. Deep brtown with ruby highlights, and a light tan, fleeting head. Coffee, chocolate, roasted nuts and hints of hops. Medium body and carbonation, smooth, dry. Flavor of burnt sugar initially, followed by a spicy, piney bitterness that was not overwhelming and provided solid balance. This is an excellent porter from a promising new brewer. I’ve had some samples a sips of several of their other beers, but not enough to rate them. Nonetheless, everything I’ve tried seemed well crafted and drinkable, and I’m looking forward to more from them. NachlamSie (1630), Tennessee, USA Nov 20, 2008 [November 8, 2008]
On tap at the brewery, listed as 6.8% abv. Pours near black with a small head. The first thing I notice about this is its very American approach. The aroma has light grapefruit with much stronger notes of charred wood and bitter chocolate. The flavor is slightly sweeter with suggestions of molasses, but smoky qualities, bitter hops, and baking chocolate keep this bittersweet at most. A few sips into the pint I start picking up a vanilla flavor I usually associate with British porters. I found this to be quite good. ucusty (1871), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Oct 7, 2008 Brown pour with fluffy chestnut colored head. Roasted chocolate malts. Linger coffee flavored finish
