Smoky aroma from a dark brown beer. This is nice and gristy and nutty. Very much a dunkles. Well done.

Another one tried at Howard's Pub, mild aroma that was hard to place besides the alcohol and hops. Nice bite from the carbonation down the sides of my tongue but not much to taste more malts than hops so it wasn't balanced real well and it had a slight metallic aftertaste. A middle of the road beer.

Dark colored little head. Not too much flavor or aroma here. Very thin bodied.

Some things of note: 1st, this is closer to a schwarzbier than a dunkel; 2nd, my label is different than the one on this page; and finally, my bottle said brewed in Baltimore, Maryland..contract brewer? On to the beer...Reddish/brown hue with a small tan head, fair lacing. Medium-bodied. Heavy malty aroma of roasted malts, molasses, dark chocolate, and espresso. Other hints on the nose were blackberry and smoke, slightly vinous. Malty initial taste, but balanced out well on the finish, light alcohol feel. Oily texture and lively carbonation. Despite the discrepencies, this was a great find, loved it. Will seek out agian.

Nice medium brown appearance with little head and less lacing. Nutty, caramel-like aroma. Malty taste with a touch of toffee. Smooth finish. Would not really consider it a dunkel.

Schwarzbier in my book. Black with ruby undertones, yet still clear when held up to light. Pretty head that lasted for a while. Aroma is of molasses, but relatively faint overall. Relatively smooth in the mouth, but a bit overcarbonated. Definitely a lager, but smooth, tasty malts, lightly bitter, hops flow in nicely. An enjoyable beer. RERATE: 9/23/07 - consumed as part of a BJCP training tasting. This used to be a schwarz, but is listed here as a dunkel and sure seemed a lot more like a dunkel in our tasting. But really, really off, loads of sediment, just plain odd. What is up with this thing? Left up my original numbers, but need to revisit this and see what the heck is going on here.

Aroma is a roasted nutty smell. The color is a perfect dark brownish red nut brown ale color with complete opaqueness. The head is a fluffy white brown head. The flovar is a moderate bitter nutty taste with a weak finish. The palate needs improvement. The overal beer is very drinkable and a very tasty beer.

I'd agree that this is a schwarzbier, rather than a dunkel. Quite nicely roasty; dry, nutty maltiness. Bitterness from roast as well as the subdued hops, which is something that I like in a dark lager. Dark brown, medium bodied, with a light tan head.
