I poured it as hard as I could to try to fake a head, but it just wasn’t happening. Absolutely no lacing. Smells of coffee and sourdough. Flavors of bitter coffee, toffee, and yeast. FInishes really sour with a sourness that sticks around long after the beer is gone. I wanted to like this, as I’m glad to be able to get WR beers around here now, but this one wasn’t very impressive. ucusty (1913), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA

Aroma is caramel malts and slight notes of chocolate I detected. Flavor is roasted, with coca and malts. Overall I thought this was a relatively superb beverage and I’m quite glad one of my co-workers picked this up for me. dkachur (2420), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA

Overpowering caramel aroma with some grain and mocha notes. Taste is earthy with fruity esters, caramel and bitter coffee. Finish is a bit acrid and the body is a bit thin. A rollercoaster of a beer. Favorite beer of all times. Dark and tasty. Roasty flavor, makes you warm and happy. Great to have a liter at the brewery and then take a bottle or two back to the beach house, drink it up and pass out on the beach. Butters (1651), Virginia, USA

Dark clear deep mahogony with a fine tan head that collapsed rapidly. Aroma of roast, carmelized malts and a bit of nobel hops. Roast and carmel malts dominate flavor with a touch of hop bitterness. Light mouthfeel with low carbonation. Finish is light and dry with a touch of lingering bitterness and grainey notes. Quaffable. A very nice example of a schwarzbier. There seems to be a bit of variability between batches. An earlier tasting was a bit of a disappointment for one of my favorite beers, but this bottlle was right on. tjthresh (1779), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
