Draft at Knoxville Brewer’s Jam. Poured a dark brown with a medium tan head that left some lacing. Aroma of light sweet chocolate malts. Flavors of the same with light milk chocolate a hint of bitterness. Light body. Not the best dunkel but OK.

Dark brown, tan head. Moslty malt aroma leads to a somewhat thin sweet malt flavor. Faint hop bitterness. I realize that a dunkel isn’t supposed to be a bock, but this needs just a little more body.

(Knoxville Brewers’ Jam). Pours cloudy dark mahogany with a beige head. The nose has malt and veggies. It is much more bland than I had expected. Mostly thin malt and some corn. The body is a bit lacking as well. I’m not too impressed with this one.

Draught at Tyler’s in Durham, NC. Dark brown with a tan head. Malty, chocolatey aroma. Malt flavor is prominent with licorice undertones. Moderate carbonation. Not for me, but not bad.

(Bottle 33 cl). German version brewed by Anker Brauerei in Nagold at 4,7% ABV. Light brown, clear beer with a tight, beautiful, light brown head. Concerning the strength this is equal to an export, but it’s not particularly full-bodied. Instead quite an unusual sourness as the most distict characteristic. Apart from that quitesoft and not particularly bitter. Might bring a vague reminder of a Flemish sou. 020803

Pours a thin off-white head, but the beer is a beautiful grossular garnet. Waffles and pure maple syrup, or pecan pie without the sweetness. Some off resiny or fusel oil flavor detracts a slight bit. Dry up front. Roasted in the middle, dry finish with lingering dry leaves. Well made,. Thanks again Suttree.

Dark brown pour with a light sandy colored, short lived, head. Roasty, nutty, aroma with a hints of chocolate. Sharp, biting flavor up front...like the papery husk of a peanut, nutty, and roasted malt with a bitter aftertaste. Thin, watery body and a jagged palate.
