There is a huge retaining tan head which leaves little lacing. The nose consists of prune, plum, raisins, slightly roasted malts and molasses. Flavors follow suit: sweet malt with dried dark fruits (per the nose) heavily intermixed. There are some slight bitters into the finish. This leaves a full-bodied syrupy mouthfeel. Not bad, but for me, definitely a special occasion brew. Arnie (272), Chicagoland, IL, Illinois, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jul 18, 2006 Reddish hued brown with a thin, tan head. Tart in the nose with some toffee and milk. Flavor is more complex than the aroma. A nice sweetness fors the foundation for this beer and creates a firm body. gws57 (1137), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA

Dark brown pour with a tan head, very malty, chocolate and cherries in the nose, quite alcoholic but well balanced, coffee and almond notes. Best one they got. cawbo (1), Virginia, USA does not count | 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | May 31, 2006 I had this at the resturant past weekend. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 29, 2006 Bottle. Chocolate and maple aroma. Dark brown with small head. Light maple and malt flavor up front with moderate astringency and bitterness in the finish. High acidity and mild carbonation. Fairly light for the style but pretty good - not as meaty as some but I’ll have to disagree with some of the other raters - this is a good example of the style. Weeping Radish does a good job at recreating German styles. TheBeerLover (1019), DC Metro Area, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 25, 2006 Weeping Radish Christmas Beer pours to a beautiful, bright, deep garnet color with a creamy tan head and a moderate amount of carbonation. When held to the light this beer is a brilliant, ruby red color. The nose on this beer is wonderful, with big aromas of sweet malt, paired with toasty, and nutty aromas. The palate is rich and full with delicious sweet, toasty, and nutty malt flavors. The mouth feel on this beer is slick, and slighty syrupy on the tongue. Weeping Radish Christmas Beer finishes with more sweet and toasty/nutty malt flavors up front, then ends with a sweet malty, and slighty warming finish.
This is a very impressive bock bier, with great malt character in both flavor and aroma. Stylistically this beer is very accurate, and those deep toasty and nutty malt flavors that define bock bier, are in this beer in a major way. The Manteo brewed version of this beer alone, would make a trip to the OBX worth while. The contract brewed version, which is vitually identical, and equally impressive, is much easier to find. This beer is perfect for a cold winter’s night to slowly sip and enjoy. I enjoyed many half liter glasses of this beer on draught, and purchased one liter swing top bottles of the Manteo, as well as a six pack of the contract brewed version of this beer to bring home. This beer would pair well with a number of hearty dishes, and would make a great desert beer as well. If you see this beer in your market, seek it out.
