Here is a malty, rich, delicious, bock bier from the Weeping Radish Brewing Company of Manteo, NC. I had the pleasure of drinking this beer at the source at the brewpub in Manteo, and bringing home fresh, 1 liter swing top bottles of the brew. There is also a contract brewed version(Clipper City of Baltimore, MD) of this beer available for wider distribution. Weeping Radish Christmas beer pours to a deep ruby red color with a thick and creamy tan head and a moderate carbonation. The nose is rich and full of sweet malt, toasty, and nutty flavors. The body is full and lush with more great malt charcter of sweet malt, toast, and nuts. This beer finishes with more big malty flavors up front, then ends with a slightly warming burn. Outstading bock bier, well worth seeking out, and a beer that you can enjoy over the course of the winter.

Weeping Radish Christmas Beer pours to a beautiful, bright, deep garnet color with a creamy tan head and a moderate amount of carbonation. When held to the light this beer is a brilliant, ruby red color. The nose on this beer is wonderful, with big aromas of sweet malt, paired with toasty, and nutty aromas. The palate is rich and full with delicious sweet, toasty, and nutty malt flavors. The mouth feel on this beer is slick, and slighty syrupy on the tongue. Weeping Radish Christmas Beer finishes with more sweet and toasty/nutty malt flavors up front, then ends with a sweet malty, and slighty warming finish. This is a very impressive bock bier, with great malt character in both flavor and aroma. Stylistically this beer is very accurate, and those deep toasty and nutty malt flavors that define bock bier, are in this beer in a major way. The Manteo brewed version of this beer alone, would make a trip to the OBX worth while. The contract brewed version, which is vitually identical, and equally impressive, is much easier to find. This beer is perfect for a cold winter’s night to slowly sip and enjoy. I enjoyed many half liter glasses of this beer on draught, and purchased one liter swing top bottles of the Manteo, as well as a six pack of the contract brewed version of this beer to bring home. This beer would pair well with a number of hearty dishes, and would make a great desert beer as well. If you see this beer in your market, seek it out.

First let me say that my beer is a doppelbock so I am not sure if the style description is correct in its listing. The beer poured a nice dark brown with a white head. Taste was malty and very balanced. I would recommend this to any lover of bocks. Excellent.

Bottle courtesy of emacgee. Pours brown with a ruby red hint and an off white head. Smells of chocolate, some light tarte hints, spicy. Tastes of spice, sweet malt, some chocolate. Enjoyable rich body. Great beer from a great brewer.

Acquired via trade. At first I was wondering what makes a Doppelbock a "Christmas beer" aside from the label, but it does seem like this beer was tweaked just a bit. Pours a dark reddish-brown color with a thin dark beige head that dissipates rapidly. Heavy roasted malt aroma along with spice. Rich body with a good roasty and nutty malt character. Lots of spice flavor too which is really what differentiates this from other Doppelbocks. The finish is spicy and lightly hoppy. This beer is just different enough from typical Doppelbocks that I would definitely enjoy it again.
