Once past that, this still was not an enjoyable beer. Pours a blurred straw color with not much head. Smelled of grassy piss aroma. Tastes like grassy hops and slightly vegetal. Unenjoyable astringent finish. tjthresh (1778), Greenfield, Indiana, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jun 10, 2008 On tap at the brewpub. Pours a dark straw color with white head. Grainy, bready, malt aroma with just a hint of grassy hops. Very balanced, but nothing really stands out. Its just kind of beer. Medium body, dry finish. emacgee (1891), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA

The nose is sweet, corn, bready, grainy, sour/acidic, fruity, infected? The flavor is sweet, tart, has a bite, phenolic, fruity, tastes infected. Slick mouthfeel. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 28, 2008 Bottle, from the now closed Manteo location. Good aroma, Sweet. Yeasty, nutty. damp autumn leaves turned little more of a grassy sourdough as it warmed. Clean orangy golden color, Good head, faded quickly, good lacing. Bitter sweet flavor, bitter, grassy toasted malt flavors. Lite body, thin creamy mouthfeel, bitter dry finish. Good Helles. Went down easy. Man I hung on to this one a while, bought it last July. I dunno if this is bottle conditioning at it’s finest or the fact that this was kept in a fridge at 48 or so degees the whole time or both. Good job. vmilaxer29 (144), Virginia, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 3, 2008 Pours golden and opaque. Very fruity smell, light head, and malty taste. Little taste of hops, strongish aftertaste that’s not actually bad, just flavorful. freekyp (901), Thomasville, North Carolina, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Sep 19, 2007 A very well-crafted Helles with a bready aroma and flavor, and a nice grassy hop finish. Pours a deep golden with a thick rocky white head that sticks to the glass like a spider web. This brew is more German than some of the helles I’ve had in Germany. A fine stateside example of why the helles is a classic style. Note that this sample was from the brewery tap, and was sampled after Weeping Radish went back from being contract brewed to in-house. Incredible orange/yellow color with a white head. Spicy malty flavor with a very "smooth" taste. This beer is very, very good with a strong malt flavor throughout including a big slightly sweet finish.
