TheBeerGod (3143), Newport News, Virginia, USA Oct 24, 2009 Bottle. Brought back from the brewery by my wife. Dark cola colored pour. Short tan head. Nose is cola, sweet malt, watery caramel and faint wheat. Taste is a different story altogether. Normally, I’d think an infected beer would smell infected, but this doesn’t. However, the sour cherry and sour wheat flavors don’t really belong in a dunkelweizen. Some lemon as well. Yeast notes and faint malt. Body is light-medium with a soft, dense foam carbonation. Ends with more sour fruit notes, sour wheat, light malt and light caramel. Kinz (2179), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA Jun 18, 2003 With great trepidation after reading all the warnings, I'm putting in a new beer. I found it in a liter flip-cap bottle at the bottom of the take-out beer cooler at the brewery. The spelling of "Wiezen," although incorrect, is what is on the bottle. I opened it up, and a frothy head of foam sprang up, and just kept coming and coming. Filled up two glasses with the foam alone. After this I was able to pour one I could actually drink. Hazy medium brown color appropriate for a the style. Huge head that lasted throughout the beer. Taste was surprisingly light, malty, but a bit thin in the middle. A bit of hops, and very faint bananas in the finish. I would have hoped for a bigger German yeast influence. Better overall than the hefe, but still not all that great a beer.
