Enjoyed this one on draught at the restaurant in Manteo, and brewery in Jarvisburg, NC, back in August of 06. This beer celebrates Weeping Radish’s 20th Anniversary, and is brewed with organic malt. This beer is a excellent domestic example of altbier, and has really good hop and malt character. This beer pours to a slightly hazy, deep amber color, with a thick, rocky, white head, and a soft to moderate carbonation. The nose on this beer is very fresh, with lots of good grassy hop aroma, paired with some good aromas of caramel malt, and hints of nuts. The palate is very fresh, and soft, with good toasty/nutty malt flavor, on a soft, smooth body. This beer finishes with more good malt up front, then ends with a very pleasing, grassy/herbal hop bite that lingers. I can not overstate how fresh this beer tastes on draught at the brewery and restaurant. A must if you find yourself in and around the Outer Banks of NC.

"Farm Brew Organic Altbier", aged in a wooden cask. Amber-copper coloring with a fluffy light tan head. Laces well. Aromas have a bit of everything it seems: fruitiness, caramels, yeastiness, and a touch of funk. Flavors are smooth and gliding, with a bready malt base and flowery hops to boot. Easy drinking. An utter surprise to me, as my previous experiences with the brewpub have been quite less than stellar. It brings me back to them.

Now this alt is VERY tasty! This is an organic brew (Info from brewmaster). Got it draught straight from the brewer’s tap. It pours copper-amber into the glass. The yeasty sediment lends a very nice caramel notation to the look. It has a huge creamy off-white head, light retention and nice spiderlace. The nose is spot on banana (with light sweet malt). Lots of complexities at work here.... Upfront, the banana leaks first into a caramel malt, padded with some light raisins and figs. Next, the well-bitter backside kicks in to showcase a peppered back palate. The finish is nicely bitter, with just enough malt to make a well-balanced mouthfeel of light syrup. As I bought a load of this to take with me, I have found that the palate should be clean to appreciate all the complexities at work. Just my personal take on it, but I found this to be quite a nice alt!

Bottle - This was the most impressive WR beer to date. Reddish brown color with a white head. A sweet bready aroma with hints of nut. Subtle raosted malt flavor with a great mouthfeel. Slight hop finish. A really well done beer.

Had a hasty lunch at Weeping Radish on the way back home, only had time to sample the Alt. Too bad, as I had never bothered rating the Corolla Gold, and never even sampled their Kolsch. But for a pleasant change of pace, this was better than a great number of beers I’ve had from Weeping Radish recently, perhaps because I think they are finally brewing their own again? In any case, copper with a nicely lingering head. Aroma was light but malty. Flavor was a great blend of light caramel and some really cool hops - earthy, with notes of hay, pepper, and just a hint of something floral. Hops are on a restrained show here, but their bitter presence is definitely the focus of this beer. Very good stuff.

Pours reddish brown with a thin off white head/ Smells of sweet malt, some earthy hints, peppery splashes, dark fruit. Tastes sweet and malty with a full body and a nice spicy finish.

Bottle. Brought back from Outer Banks vacation. Had at a local seafood restaurant and had to have more. Pours rick amber with a nice head. Caramel malts and toffee. Slightly sour finish. Definitely one of WR’s better brews.

At 2007 Hickory Hops, on cask, as "Farm Brew Organic Altbier". Cloudy Orange, very little head. Yeasty, bready aroma. Smooth, viscous palate. Pronounced Chocolate flavor at first, then herbal bready flavors in the finish. Dry, vaguely citrusy finish. Nice stuff.
