19641948 (492), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Sep 16, 2006 From notes 6/18/03:
Pours a golden yellow color with a fluffy white head. The head dissipated all too soon and I was left with a slight milky film. No lacing. Aromas of malt and lemon Pine-Sol. The taste is malty with the added touch of citrusy piney hops. Unexpected. Steady regular bubbly carbonation that you could almost set your watch to. The aftertaste has a lemony tinny feel that almost brought the whole thing down. Very hoppy as related to the style. A novel citrusy flourish here. But the aftertaste really sunk me to saddened lows. I’d get it again if I was at the NC coast and it was available, but I wouldn’t really seek it out otherwise.
MrBeerUSA (40), HorseShoe, North Carolina, USA Jun 1, 2004 Oh god! Not good, not good at all. This is not something they want to advertise the outter banx with. Stay away from this decay! Union (22), Horse Shoe, North Carolina, USA May 27, 2004 Alright, I’ve been to the outerbanks, I even consider myself a pretty kick-ass surf fisherman. But this stuff tastes worse than the bait that get tossed into the ocean on a hook. I finished one bottle and put it on a hook and cast it into the deep blue.
Dogbrick (2813), Columbus, Ohio, USA Dec 31, 2003 Courtesy of City Beverage in Winston-Salem. Unfortunately the beer is nowhere near as nice as the location. Pours a clear dark reddish-orange color with a thin off-white head. Very thin lacing. The aroma consists of some hops and spice. The body is a little on the thin side, and there is a fair amount of hops in the flavor, but very little else. Slight but lasting hoppiness in the finish. I would probably get this again if I were vacationing in the Outer Banks but not otherwise. haddon90 (1034), Alexandria, Virginia, USA Dec 19, 2003 Very clear. Copper/amber color. Bubbly/fizzy head. Big aroma, smells of some caramel, spice, and malt. Kind of watery. Some hops, and a hint of spice...i mean little. But other than that, light bodied, smooth. Nothing really to right home about though. hopscotch (5437), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Nov 18, 2003 Crystal clear brew. The very definition of amber. Huge, creamy, off-white head. Good retention. Very spotty, weeping lacework.
The nose is just a touch floral with tiny notes of caramel. Fairly nondescript.
No real flavor. Much like drinking seltzer water with hops. Not offensive. Well-balanced.
Extremely thin and light-bodied, but it does have a really creamy mouthfeel. Lively carbonation. Crisp finish with notes of sweet corn. Not one of my favorites. Suttree (2702), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Sep 21, 2003 Undistinguished. Orangy brown, white head. Vegetable aroma. finished dry, which is good, but nothing else much to get your attention.
