Commercial Description:
Supple, malty and mellow. Its harmonious flavour is the great strength of our dark wheat beer.

500ml Bottle: Pours deep, cloudy amber brown, good sized foamy off-white head. Lots of hefeweiss in the nose heavy with cloves and banana bread, along with a toffee malt character and lots of yeast. The taste is a nice blend of styles with a tasty banana and clove based hefeweiss backed with nutty, caramel malts and a bready yeast character. Unfortunately a bit light in body, but largely a nice dunkelweizen.

500 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a cloudy brownish orange with decent tan head. Nose of banana, clove in the nose. Flavour has banana, caramel, clove and light roastiness. Finish is dry, lightly sweet and wheaty. Fizzy, fine carbonation. Pretty good.

500 ml bottle from the LCBO- Decants a murky brown with orange hues as it is held up to the light. In the aroma, there is soft fruit, banana, some spice, clove, some dark fruit. Tastes of sweet banana and clove, dark fruit and a bit roasty/nutty with some yeast towards the end. Very creamy and fulfilling finish. I like this quite a bit.

500 ml bottle from LCBO, served cool in a Weizenglas.

App.: Cloudy medium copper with a fair light tan foam. Aroma: Quite a bit of yeast, some dark dried fruits, some nuttiness, a fair helping of banana/clove esters, there’s a dirty, earthy note in here. Palate: Medium-ish body and moderate effervescence. Flav.: A bit of yeast, some banana, quite nutty, some dark dried fruits, still a little earthy, but not dirty, other vague fruitiness; dry with no bitterness and a kinda watery, sorta-Weizen finish.

Not terribly impressed.

Bottle: Pours a turbid copper wheat ale in the flute glass. Nice off white meringue cap, good retention and lacing. Aroma of weissbier esters and phenols over a pleasant roasty toffee malt discernment. Toffee malts in front with fruit and spice tones, mid palate a roastyness and hop herbal bite, lightly sweet but drying finish. Nice little hefeweizen with added roast and dark toffee tones, I think I like this better than their golden hefe.

500mL bottle from the LCBO. This beer justifies the existence of this style to me. Poured a muddy reddish brown with a large beige head. Super active carbonation. The aroma is great, straight up bubblegum, minor clove and wheat malts, with some musty yeast as well. The flavour starts out with a sweet malt element that flips quickly into a sort of salty bite that somehow works, with very minor spice, clove, and a yeasty finish. Nice sweet wheaty malt aftertaste. I did not generally like Dunkelweiss until I tried this example, and now I can understand why people bother brewing it. Everything is in good proportion and balance, I don’t feel like I’m getting beat over the head with one aspect like in all other examples I’ve had of this style. Bravo.

This has a great blend of wheat and malt. The dark roasted malts come out very well.
