| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Apr 4, 2009 16.9 oz bottle-Clear light brown color w/almost no head & good lacing. Rich roasted malt aroma; taste didn’t really deliver. Had some malt, some roasted nuts, but it was kind of boring. Seemed kind of flat to me, needed more sweetness or malt flavor or spice or...something. Short flat finish. mickmac (96), Ngunnawal, Australia

Great toasted-caramel and light resinous hoppy aroma.Understated crystal malt taste with a subtle spiciness and a residual sweetness and a slight alcoholic warmth to the finish. | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Apr 4, 2009 Pours hazy dark brown with a nice inch-thick tan head that lingers. Nice bright floral aroma, nutty and sweet. Solid malt flavor with great background of nuts, caramel, coffee and a nice warming kick of alcohol. Slight bitter aftertaste, but a nice clean finish. A very smooth drinking experience, always wanted more after each sip. DSG (1501), Tel Aviv, Israel

Nice caramelly aroma with some bread and quite a bit of nuts. Sweet firm malty flavor with roasted dark bread, caramel, some toffee and light alcohol notes. Nice heavy mouthfeel. A very good winter beer. kopher (297), New York, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 30, 2009 Bottle from Whole Foods. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Sweet, malty aroma with caramel and roast. Flavor is malty and sweet with dark fruit notes (plum, fig), caramel, alcohol, and slight hop bitterness. Smooth, fairly full palate with a little alcohol warmth. Overall a phenomenal example of the style. Spaghetti pairing was not great though. joshwilfong (776), Cleveland, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Mar 23, 2009 dark brown with medium tan head. moderate carbonation. nose of caramel malt. flavor is of caramel malt with some burnt notes from kettle caramelization. hop bitterness makes it reasonably balanced. not too much residual dextrins doesn’t leave it overly malty and cloying. the finish might be the best part, being very clean for such a large beer. very good, one of the best doppels i have had arondee (176), Tucson, Arizona, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Mar 20, 2009 Beer #100! Poured a very dark chocolate black with a hint of red. Smells roasty and bitter. The taste is all dark chocolate, smoke, slightly sweet slightly bitter. Very well rounded, not too much of anything stands out to me. A good beer.
