RSRIZZO (1337), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Mar 10, 2009 Color is a deep dark amber with good carbonation and a thin head. Aroma is a fruity roasted scent. Taste is roasted, sweet and smoky. Starting with a medium body it goes down easy with a sweet nip on the end. Finish comes on with some dried fruit ( raisin and prune ) then a roasted flavor with a touch of smoke and very easy bitterness. Overall this is a tasty brew with a nice balanced flavor. angrypirate06 (678), Texas, USA Mar 3, 2009 Bottle. Drank with bman1113vr. Pours a dark black with a off white head. Smells of semi sweet chocolate, raisins, bananas and molasses. Tastes of unsweet chocolate and raisins. BMan1113VR (2755), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Mar 3, 2009 Bottle. Pours with a light brown, bubbly head and a very dark mahogany body. Good lace. Aroma of bananas, rummy, alcohol, patent leather, chocolate, raisins, cinnamon, molasses, and caramelized mini wheats. Taste chocolate, light coffee roast, wheat, banana, vanilla, and sweetness. syrupy mouthfeel and light bubbles. Beardface (977), Eugene, Oregon, USA Feb 23, 2009 16.9 oz bottle from Market of Choice. Dark amber pour with a nice small beige colored head. Very pleasant roasted caramel flavor with some molasses and chewy nut flavors. Very nice nutty and caramelly aroma as well. My third straight winner from the oldest brewery in the world. Nebulor (109), , California, USA Feb 19, 2009 Has roasted and caramel malt smell.
Pours a dark amber color that appears clear with a rich eighth inch biege head. Too dark to see anything.
Smooth roasted caramel taste throughout not burnt.
Moderate to full bodied and resiny not syrupy or watery with lively soft carbonation.
Very smooth, with a hint of being chewy, a session Doppelbock that is not to sweet.
jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA Feb 16, 2009 Deep copper with a decent sized beige head. Aroma is of chocolate, dark fruits and caramel. Taste is of caramel, prune and alcohol. jbuzz (658), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Feb 16, 2009 Dark and rich. Malt molasses and some alcohl tones. Some bitterness in the after taste Mutualaid (136), Texas, USA Feb 12, 2009 Pours dark brown with a fizzy, beige head; looks very much like a cola in the glass. Malt aromas of hazelnuts and toast with a hint of dates; no hop bouquet. Thankfully not as sweet as many doppelbocks but not as complex either. Caramell and prune up front finishing with leather, molasses and grain husk qualities that are not entirely pleasant. A bit of an aged hop flavor, perhaps? Body is thin for the style. I really want to like this beer, but the finish is just not tasty.
