Caramelly malty aroma with spicy hops, smooth creamy aromas. Pours a dark amber with a thin white head. Smooth and malty, caramel malts, traces of molasses, spicy hops, very very smooth. Very enjoyable and easy to drink. A really nice dopplebock.

Pours the darkest ruby, nearly brown unless held up to the sun. Creamy head with lacing the dissipates in a beautiful way. Chocolatey-appley malt aroma is mild, with some molasses in the background. Medium bodied with a soft palate. At 7.4%, it’s a drinker, and of course we’re harder on brews than most people. This is better than 98% of what I could get going out in the Springs, just don’t get alot out of this one. I respect the Weihenstephan brewery, but this won’t ever be their calling card.

Bottle from BevMo costing $2.69. Poured a rich red with nice foamy white head and good lacing. Nose of malts and ripe fruit. Smooth mouthfeel. Very rich flavor with lots of fruit flavors. Bitter finish. Very nice beer.

Nice dark red color, transparent. Smells a lot like cereal or grains, grape nuts. The taste is very malty, some fruit, clean. Germans aren’t usually my thing but this is a very interesting beer and one I will re-visit in the hopes of learning something. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 01-12-2009 01:39:51

Bottle into stein. Pours a clear, dark brown, with hints of mahogany around the edges, and a small, fluffy khaki head on top that lingers. Bit of effervescence visible as well. Nose is restrained but delicious - molasses, bread crust, a bit bready, toffee. Taste is delicious - molasses, hints of dark fruit and brown sugar, a light roasty note hinting at dark breadcrust but with no acidity at all - rich and bready, sweet but balanced. Finish is long, hints of bitterness, reminiscent of rye bread and molasses. Mouthfeel is almost perfect - smooth but with a light, fluffy carbonation that is close to flawless. Superb beer.

Pours brown with a red hue, dark but glowing and see-thru, with a medium off-white frothy head that dissipates quickly into a thin fine cream. Nice roasty grassy aroma, lightly rich, raisins, nutty and very German. Yummy first taste, quite enjoyable, dark roasted malts without any sign of being burnt, some chocolate and caramel, raisins, roasted bread, grassy, rich and very smooth, just sweet enough. Almost a 5 in palate, super smooth, light sharp fizzy carbonation, almost creamy, nice soft mouthful overall.

Draft at Paradiso. I could have drank this for hours. Faint aroma of sweet chocolate, and a nuttiness. The flavor is where this one got me. Touches of toffee and lots of fruits, raisins, plums, vanilla, and caramel. Something about this one really got me.

On draught at Birreria Paradiso. Classic doppelbock with a bitter hops background, malt foreground, and decent slight bitter finish.
