cheapdark (2011), Monacatootha, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 29, 2008 Oh yea, cute dark, like root beer pour without a head. Has that lucious dunkle or dark lager aroma with a mild volatile eythanol olfactory. Chocolaty initial flavor impact evolves into a stronger alky palate. Each swig comes across the same way, chocolaty to an american malt liquor evolution. At first I didn’t think this was 7+% but now I am a believer. oooowahhh. Yowser bowser, as Mario or Luigi would say. A dark lager that finishes like a malt. Good change of pace. Detectable miniscule carbonation creaminess. I almost want to give it a mid taste rating but its just a tad too much alky for this pale yelow lager lover. Alky bite remains a little rude at the end. Geiserich (1775), Vienna, Austria Oct 27, 2008 Bottled: Mahagoni color, aroma is light roasty, wood barrels, malt and caramel, Flavor is malty, round and full bodied. Alcohol, caramel notes and some molasse. Light dry, light roasty finish. Full bodied, but all in all common bock. dkachur (2316), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Oct 24, 2008 500 mL bottle from Wine Warehouse, numbered 7068. Pours a dark brown with a medium head. Heavy dark fruits in the aroma with some wheat and soy. Taste is dark fruits, soy and rye bread. Full bodied. DrDavid (957), Johnson, Vermont, USA Oct 20, 2008 (Bottle). Sweet caramel malt aroma. Reddish amber body, small creamy tan head. Sweet fruity and caramel malt flavor. A bit too sweet. Surprisingly light finish. glennmastrange (807), hobe sound, Florida, USA Oct 13, 2008 Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of dark bread, toasted and mild coffee, moderate hops of herbs and resin, light earth for the yeast, and notes of raisin, soy sauce, toffee, honey, and cola. Head is fizzy, light brown with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is brown. Flavor starts heavily sweet and lightly acidic, and finishes lightly sweet and bitter. Palate is medium to full, between creamy and syrupy and has a lively carbonation. Nice deep malty aromas and a sweet flavor makes this a great Doppelbock for me. Muggus69 (500), Sydney, Australia Oct 13, 2008 500ml bottle. BB 30.07.09.
Pours a beautiful ruby-highlighted deep bronze body with a dense, creamy light-tan lace clinging to the glass.
Big malt aroma; rich cocoa, roasted nut, melanoidin graininess, cream, dark plum and vinous dried fruits.
Rich lenghty palate, low fluffy carbonation, sticky texture with drying dark chocolate tannic quality.
Wow! This beer is just chock-a-block with delicious malt character; dark chocolate, caramel, honey, nuts, cocoa, figs, prune, raisin, subtle smoke and liquorice. Drying finish, dried fruits and cocoa lingers.
This is great! Big, succulent, malt-driven lager. Cleaner and less complex than big dark Belgians, but certainly is enjoyable! Butters (1622), Virginia, USA Oct 12, 2008 Updated: Aug 2, 2009Clear dark mohogany pour with fair light tan head. Dark fruit aroma with caramel malt. Flavors of honey, raisin, malt, and plum. There is even some meatiness in there! Creamy medium body with a sweet malty finish. Fantastic doppelbock and a great label to boot! masonjer (557), Holt, Michigan, USA Oct 5, 2008 pours a murky brown with a cream head. Aroma is caramel and raisins. Taste Is more dark fruit, chocolate, vanilla and a nice bitterness on the end to cut some of the sweetness. Not a huge dopplebock fan but this is one of the best I’ve had.
