FatTony (121), Augusta, Georgia, USA Jun 1, 2008 Pint bottle- poured out a beautiful mahogany brown-amber with a dark khaki head. Aroma was malty with a coffee back. Taste was excellent, toasty malt and nuts with a sweet finish. Palate was good for a Doppelbock, very smooth. Would be great with a hearty beef dinner. Liked it a lot. ChristianScheffel (4431), Odense, Denmark Jun 1, 2008 Clear amber beer with a small off-white head. Malty aroma with toffee, brown sugar and molasses. Dry but rich malty flavour, tasty and drinkable for the style. dalepryor (172), Paducah, Kentucky, USA May 31, 2008 Pours dark dark brown, very malty aroma, just what you would expect from a doppelbock. Flavor is extremely smooth, nothing overpowering about this at all, and surprisingly easy to drink. This is one of my favorite doppelbocks so far. TheBeerBaron (218), Florida, USA May 31, 2008 Clear even brown color. Frothy tan head of tiny foam rather than big bubbles. Carbonation is active but hard to spot in the deep brown color. Sweet aroma thats predominately malt and caramel with an apple tinge to boot. Its a sweet flavored brew thanks to the double malt. The taste is fruity as well with the apple. Its well flavored to handle the high gravity and high alcohol content. Palate is remarkably light and quenching for this heavy style. A great job. This company might have a future (j/k). ansermadide (496), Kyle, Texas, USA May 27, 2008 Poured into a 500ml glass stein, which shows off it’s thick, light-brown head beautifully. Lacing is wet, sparse as the head dissipates. Color is deep mohogany, a dark-red/deep brown color. Absolutely a beautiful beer. Aroma reminds me of a real German beer - a sweet malt, slight yeast. First thing I noticed about the taste was the cold, all-encomassing crispness, then a sweet bitterness that focuses on the center of the tongue and cheeks. Second sip tastes a bit more bitter, but leaves no pronounced aftertaste. The more I drink the more I taste the grain. A very decent doppelbock. I’d love to see this available at the local pub!!! travita (1851), Frisco, Texas, USA May 26, 2008 Clear and dark brown in color with an ok tan colored head. Sweet, maple syrup, and nutty malty smell. Sticky, sweet, nutty, malty in the taste. Just allright I hoped there was more. TheCaptain (526), Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA May 26, 2008 Poured a rich dark brown with a tan off white head. Rather enjoyed this, close to the Ayinger but maybe not as robust and flavorful. Malts and a toffee presence, relatively mild, tinge of sweet and maybe a little dry bitterness, good and drinkable. SamGamgee (1396), Santa Cruz (La Selva), California, USA May 26, 2008 50cl bottle. Dark brown color with a medium beige head. The aroma is doughy and sweet, with cookies, dried berries some licorice, and cake. The flavor is clean and smooth with plenty of malt. I little sweet, but definitely within the typical range. Toffee and light roast flavors with low bitterness, but enough balance to not be cloying. Full and slightly chewy mouthfeel. Quite drinkable and balanced, though you have to be in the mood to handle this much malt. Nice doppelbock; rich, yet refined.
