altonbrownd (1862), Amsterdam, Netherlands Apr 8, 2008 Bottle from Cracked Kettle. Dark brown body, healthy head. Sweet and coffee nose. Toffee and coffee malty flavours. Really smooth and enjoyable. Extra points for cool label. troyc (1173), Lubbock, Texas, USA Apr 7, 2008 (Bottle) Pours a brown color with a khaki colored head. One-dimensional aroma of dark malts and toffee. Taste includes roasted malt, a touch of smoke, nut, maybe some light cocoa, and alcoholic warming towards the end. The beer is a little on the sweet side. Average mouthfeel and carbonation level. A decent beer, but somehow it left me wanting more. douglas88 (1556), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Apr 3, 2008 Bottle from Lee’s liquors in Las Vegas. Pours a dark brown body with a nice thick beige head. The aroma was just great; powerful fruit, spices, and malts. The taste was yeasty, with some rye bread, a hint of cloves, some sweet german candy, and a nice fruity aspect. It goes down really smooth and is damn tasty. A nice beer for sure. harrisoni (6703), Ashford, Kent, England Apr 3, 2008 500ml bottle from Utobeer. Deep ruby colour with thin deep beige head. Lovely fruity malt aroma. A dunkles starkbier apparently. Decent dark beer with decnt dark cherry/plum/grapey flavour. Bit bready, some roasty toasty malts. So do I like it? Well it’s not bad, but not really sure. I mean the beer is good, just not sure it’s in my zone. beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA Mar 26, 2008 Earthy malts, roasted and grainy bready flavor. Smooth on the palate with a sweeter finish. Almost a big meaty in the aftertaste. Mineral and metallic finish. RollinHard (748), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Mar 23, 2008 Pours a very dark red brown (but not black) with a medium khaki colored head. Aroma is a little fruitier than I expected, especially without any hefeweizen yeast. There’s some chocolate, cherries, rye toast tanginess, and toffee. Pretty pleasant mix, more to offer than that, but easy to sum up. Nutty chocolate flavor with some dark rye toast, a little cake, nuts, finishes with a toast, coffee and slight dark chocolate finish, but the aftertaste kinda cloys a bit. In beers like this, German yeast tends to add a nice tangy contrast, and the fruit on the nose is a plus. Medium bodied, fairly high carbonation, and despite the full flavor, it doesn’t have a good creamy enveloping mouthfeel. Pretty tasty stuff. badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Mar 23, 2008 dark brown body with a slight reddish hue with thin head. sweet and rich, nose of molasses, caramel, chocolate, and toffee...very nutty as well..very filling, very good kappldav123 (1789), Markkleeberg, Germany Mar 23, 2008 Big thanks to joss for the bottle. Looks really good, the beer in the glass also. Very fine foam. Tastes very strong and malty, well balanced finish. Very drinkable and good doppelbock!
