16.9 oz bottle. Dark coffee in color with large creamy light brown head. Aroma of molasses and caramel. Complex flavors of brown sugar, molasses, maple, coffee and roasted malt. Quite sweet, candy-like. Ends with slight hint of bitterness and alcohol.

Pours a dark brown with a small-medium fizzy beige head. A dark malty beer with molasses, toffee, chocolate, caramel, and hints of dark fruit. A bit of roasted grain as well. Enjoyable doppelbock.

Dark gold honey color. Amazing molasses aroma, full body, flavor that lasts. It’s a great beer that you would actually want to drink a LOT of!!

Strong malty aroma with chocolate and caramel accents. Dark caramel color, oddly the same color as Coke. Flavor of dark malts, chocolate and alcohol with a surprising hop finish. Overall a strong beer, but would prefer more balance and a cleaner finish.

March 2006 - I don’t even know how to rate this one. I was shocked when eaglefan538 told me it was a dopplebock, because it certainly didn’t taste like any dopple I’ve had (no sweet dark fruit flavor?). First off, I’ll say that this beer is definitely unique. Pours with seriously dark brown color, minimal head or lacing. The aroma just flew from the glass, like the flavor a mixture of chocolate malt balls and molasses. Those flavors, though, are way overdone. Have you ever had a piece of cake that, while good tasting, is just so rich that you can’t finish it? Well, this is the beer version. I’m glad the 500 ml bottle was split with my father...I had trouble getting through my half.

I don’t really get these black beers. The good ones taste only marginally better than the bad ones. I think the room for error is less. Black with a nice head. Chocolate and caramel and toffee. Good beer but not great.

Bottled. Clear reddish brown colour with a small beige foam. Sweet and almost syrupy aroma of brown sugar, dried dark fruit, marzipan and nuts. Full sweet malty and sugary flavour of fudge, milky chocolate, syrup and butter. Long cloyingly sweet aftertaste of dark syrup, almonds and alcohol. Way too sweet, almost like a dark "malt likka".

Decent beer, but I prefer the dunkel hefe. Dark brown with a nice head. Quit a bit of hops...first Weihenstephaner I’ve tried with so much. Taste is good though, just not my favorite. Good mouthfeel...slightly thick and pleasant.
