elelwarren (138), SF Bay area, California, USA Jan 15, 2008 Pint sized bottle. Very dark, like a schwartz beer or stout. Tan head, w/lots of lacing. Aroma of molasses & concord grape. Sweet, with nice chocolate bitterness mellowing the sugars, although some unpleasant licorice tones come through on some sips. Earthy hops ending. Lowe1983 (1029), Fairborn, Ohio, USA Jan 13, 2008 Pours a dark copper color with a tan head. Aroma is of caramel malts, dark fruits, molasses, roasted malts, and some smoke. Thick on the palate. Flavor is very much the same with a dry slightly bitter finish from some floral hops. Pretty good. BlackDonald (1127), Boise, Idaho, USA Jan 13, 2008 This is not my favorite example of this style, but nonetheless is a very well made beer. Has a slight heaviness, almost syrupy on the palate. The aroma is wonderful, with almost a peaty smokiness. Chocolate and cinnamon clove spice dominate the flavor. I can imagine this is a wonderful food beer. Headbanger (1574), Aurora, Illinois, USA Jan 11, 2008 16.9 oz bottle-A dark brown body with a small tan head and an aroma of sweetness, malt, molasses, smoke, and fruity esthers. Taste of the same with malts, chocolate, caramel, and slight coffee coming out throughout this medium to full bodied brew. I’m not a big fan of this style but I tink this brew is very well made. Great beer. Quietman (160), Florida, USA Jan 6, 2008 Dark brown.Tan head.Dark fruit and malty sweet aroma.Bittersweet flavor like dark
chocolate.Good balance.Smooth, nice finish, medium body.Very good. Rynoplasty (500), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Jan 1, 2008 Pours a nice deep reddish brown with a small tan head. Aroma is malty with a bunch of caramel malt coming through. Taste is very smooth and malty, with of course lots of caramel flavor. Very good, but not as good as Celebrator or optimator. Still a great doppelbock. Cryotek (206), Pawtucket, Rhode Island, USA Dec 31, 2007 This proves to me that Doppelbocks are one of the most enjoyable styles in beer IMO. Great brown color with a light brown head. Sweet but dry, easy to drink yet full bodied. Slight caramel sweetness and maybe dried fruit. Very enjoyable, would like to hav again if i remember to get around to it. yespr (11613), Copenhagen O, Denmark Dec 27, 2007 50 cL bottle. Pours beautiful dark amber, visible, with a dense off-white head. Dried fruity and dark roasted malt aroma. Flavour is smooth chocolate flavoured malty with a slight note of dried fruit and a mild woody note. The barley notes keep lingering into the far finish and provide some warmth with the alcohol. Mild bitterness in the far finish.
