| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 23, 2007 Beer pours darker than night, with a nice head. Do you like coffee? If you do, take your time in the rich aroma of this beer. Sweet and malty, alcohol very well hidden. Mouthfeel is pleasant with good carbonation. This is a good beer to relax to, but one is enough in a night for me. JMFG (1514), Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Dec 22, 2007 Pours a dark copper brown with a sparse off-white head. Sweet caramel and slight nutty aroma, but mostly sweetness. Nice taste - sweet malty flavor with mild spice. The sweetness never gets to be overboard and the finish actually ends up bring a little dry. A nice dopplebock, still getting a feel for the variety available within the style. illkarate (89), Bloomington, Indiana, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 22, 2007 500 ml, lot 4187. Great pour, nice darker tan head. Dark brown with rubyish tint in the glass. Lots of malt up front, hints of chocolate, toffee, molasses, raisins, wood - maybe oak? Very mellow, almost non-existent carbonation. Good mouthfeel, nice finish. Hides the alcohol (7.4%) extremely well. Good beer. Oakes (8080), gone rambling, Vietnam
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 19, 2007 Chestnut brown colour. Rich malt aroma - toffee, some light earth and brown sugar. Soft body. Pleasant molassesy note. Genteel, understated elegance. Becker (14), Bayern, Germany
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 18, 2007 This one was nice, but not what I had hoped for. A very nice dark coloration, but the aroma is lacking. Flavor is nice and full, but lacking in real character. Overall, good, but not great. Beershine (2686), Hue, Vietnam
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 18, 2007 Deep dark brown, nice color. Smells like malted grain, a little on the syrupy side, some cake elements. Big creamy mouthfeel with clean but thick finish. Good balance of flavors with the residual sugars balanced by hop in the end, never cloying or too sweet even though there are hints of chocolate liqueur. nearbeer (1834), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 10, 2007 500 ml, lot #9137. Beautiful mahogany with ruby tint. Huge creamy head that settles in and leaves some frosting. Big molasses and dates on the nose; slight cocoa and alcohol aromas. Sweet molasses-cocoa front is toned down nicely by an earthy, woodsy dryness that turns the taste to dark fruit, oak, and bitterish green herbs for the finish. Medium body is fairly smooth and finishes dry and slightly astringent. Derek881 (492), Frederick, Maryland, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Dec 5, 2007 Pours from the bottle a dark brown color with a ruby red tint, but somewhat opaque. A big, foamy and creamy tan head that had great retention. A mostly sweet aroma with some good fruit notes, including raisins and maybe prunes, maybe somewhat nutty. The taste is sweet at the onset with a mildly bitter finish, and more fruit notes. Palate is largely creamy, without a lot of carbonation, only subtle fizzyness. I liked this beer a good bit, wasn’t really sure what to expect and was pleased.
