16.9oz bottle poured in a Sam Adams specialty glass. Excellent! Korbinian pours beer bottle brown with a medium head. It smells like molasses. It has a great smooth silky taste and a warm, semi-sweet not-quite-chocolate finish. An excellent alternative to Celebrator Doppelbock.

Dark ruby red color, small steady beige head. Rye bread, roasted malty nose, very intensive aroma with hints of tar also. Sweetish brew, full-bodied, sticky mouthfeel, reasonably low carbonation. Licorice and fudge or some other candy in the flavor. After being in the sweeter side, long roasted aftertaste rides in. Alcohol is quite hidden but leaves warming feeling. Super and very complex dobbelbock. How about the barrel matured version of this?

Bottle. Aroma of sweet dark malt and something veg or herb. Very dark brown, but clear, color. A very frothy tan head. At least medium bodied, something herbal, and a lot of sweet, unroasted, dark malt. Arguably creamy. Carbonation is quite moderate. As the beer reduces, the glass displays a bit of lacing. I find nothing but dark sweetish malt, except for interesting flavor aspects. Maybe vanilla. Maybe not. The finish is not bitter, and after the malt melts away, the mouth is left with a light herbal impression.

bottle. color is a cloudy red brown with 1/2 inch or so of light tan head.Aroma is robust with sweet malts and and light vanilla notes. spicy hops also seem to be present in the background. Palate is rich and thick. sappy and oily without being syrupy. Sweet upfront with a decent finish but i’d like to see more hops to cut through the richness.

What a great dopplebock. True to style other than I couldn’t get the ‘strong malty aroma’. Very smooth for a big beer and enjoyed the complex taste. Not something to have ten of rather one to savour. Definitely a style I will try other examples of and one to try and brew.

500ml bottle. Darkish brown color. Aroma is quite malty, with a bit of nuttiness. Taste is very malty, with a sweet and caramel flavor to it as well. Very smooth beverage, but I did not find it very refreshing.

Pours a rusty brown with slight tan head that fades quickly leaving some nice lace along the glass. Aroma is very malty, with some caramel, light nutiness and some a light smell of a root cellar. Taste is caramel malt, some dough/bread, dusty grains, light fruitness and a touch of chocolate in the finish. Full bodied and very creamy. Pretty solid.

500ml. Bottle $2.99 Binny’s Orland Korbinian poured a caramel brown into my pilsner glass. Generous amount of small rising carbonation bubbles. A tan 2 finger head formed on the pour that, with some time, faded do a thick cap. Leaves small spotty lacing. Looks good. The smell starts with a a deep caramel sweetness. Along the way there’s some nuts, bananas, and some doughiness. Some raw grains show up as well as a mild vegetal aroma. Theres a mild metallic scent in there that doesn’t belong but it fades as the beer warms. Smells good. The metallic and vegetal aromas do detract a little from the smell though. The flavor is much like the smell without the funky vegetal flavor or metallic twang. More caramel and raw grains are the backbone and help to showcase the mild banana. The doughiness comes along mid-palate and everything ends up with some frothy milk chocolate and a touch of alcohol. Slightly acidic. Nice. The mouthfeel seems to be a little on the thin side. Medium bodied but the thinness that starts mid-palate doesnt quite fit. There is a frothiness on the swallow that is unique and pleasant. I could drink another one or two of these buts that’s probably all. It is an enjoyable beer that I will pick up again. Overall this is a solid doppelbock. There are some unique characteristics you don’t find in other doppelbocks, unfortuanately some of them don’t add to the quality. Not as hearty as some others but still a good all around beer. 2/15/07
