Malty aroma of maple syrup, caramel, dark fruit, bubblegum and licorice. Strong & complex taste of maple syrup, some saltiness (soy sauce), spices, roastiness, and sweet caramel. Great complexity in the malt profile. Slight yeastiness showed up but the hops were far away in the background and barely noticable. Very long malty sweet & salt finish. Soft mouthfeel, velvety but not without carbonation. Quite different from the more traditional doppelbocks but very good. andyhite (290), Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | May 4, 2007 500ml bottle. pours deep brown w/slight ruby tint. the head seems a bit watery, with little retention. aromas aren’t too potent, but a good mix of anisette, slight cinnamon (mirrored in taste), sugar, and mineral-esque. the roasted malts really peak mid-palate, and there are raisin and dried apricot undertones. the finish is ever so slightly similar to a sour ale. more herbs are apparent on the back palate. good beer, different, but one i’d probably buy (again) ekstedt (2420), Göteborg, Sweden

Deep brown color with a sweet toasted malt aroma. Flavor the same. A nice thick chewy bock. It’s great that there is no hops bite in this. Just goodness. Enjoyable
