DrHomolka (725), Columbus, Ohio, USA Mar 22, 2007 Bottle. Pours black with red highlights and a small off white head. Aroma is strong and interesting though not too appealing to me. It smells like mud. Taste is malty, smooth, a bit fruity and bitter. This was all right but nothing really special. iowaherkeye (1832), Bakersfield, California, USA Mar 19, 2007 16.9oz bottle, no date. Pours a clear ruby with a one finger fading beige head. Aroma of molasses, brown sugar, grain, nuts, and buttery toffee--smells fairly sweet. Flavor has the addition of a bit of milk chocolate, as well as all of the aforementioned aromas into a dry finish. There was also a hint of salted hazelnuts. Bitterness was minimal, no alcohol detected. Medium to full body with light to moderate carbonation--pretty smooth. Very good beer, and one of the better doppelbocks I’ve had lately. elektronikfagteknikerlærling (892), kbh, Denmark Mar 19, 2007 bottle. dark amber brown color. large head. deep malty aroma. also deep malty taste. very sweet and slightly roasted. goes down easy. ontario102 (794), Boise, Idaho, USA Mar 18, 2007 Dusty, woody and slightly metallic malty aroma; deeply chocolaty with strong coffee notes, a little grapey; sweet with a little dark roast bitterness, enough to keep it from being cloying; creamy body; almost roasty, lingering, but smooth, finish. DerBiermann (18), Sofia, Bulgaria Mar 16, 2007 Weihenstephan is a synonym of beer quality: there is a famous institute for brewing. the bavarian experts make this very dark and strong malty beer. gwpom (246), Akron, New York, USA Mar 13, 2007 16.9 oz bottle. Dark cloudy amber with a night tight head, this beer has a taste that jogs my memory to something I can’t place. Nice full flavor, roasty and fruity and not over alcoholly. Got this on recommendation from beerlord, who is a bock fiend. I need to try more of these. JorisPPattyn (5155), Antwerpen, Belgium Mar 9, 2007 Very dark ruby red beer with a dark amber big-bubbled head. Diacetyl, toffee, buttertoffees, and a bit of fresh greenery, molasses. And raw grain. Not very sweet, lots of roastiness, burnt parts of the roast. Ends dry, even just off-woody. Even not too sweet, it’s sticky on the lips. Medium to well-bodied. Nice Doppelbock, no doubt. Mungo (2474), Southampton, Hampshire, England Mar 7, 2007 Bottle (from Bitter Virtue, BB Aug 07). Toffee and chocolate and lightly roasted malts. Nutty sweetness in mouth with hints of alcohol. Finishes slightly sweet and syrupy. Not too bad but not great.
