Aroma is a little odd having malt and chocolate up front but with a salty, seaweedy smell as well. Smooth, creamy palate sits well with flavours of toffee, dates, raisins and a bit of chocolate. Not very sweet though. A good doppelbock, unsure about the nose though, but still a very good example of the style. smcolw (330), Wayland, Massachusetts, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Aug 23, 2009 Deep brown color with ruby hues. Appears to be clear. Impressive light beige head, leaving nice ring lace.
Smells of stew meat, caramel and sweet chocolate--not exactly attractive, but it is fascinating. I’ve never smelled this combination before in a beer. Complex.
Rich flavor in a thin body--well not that thin, but certainly less than most bocks (not to mention doppels). Very complex--quite dry for the style (a touch of sugar on the tongue only on the initial sip). Surprisingly hoppy in the swallow which lingers throughout the aftertaste. Some chocolate notes without any burnt flavors at all. Almost like ice cream.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 17, 2009 Pours a deep mahogany color with no head and a lot of bubbles along the side of the glass - looks like soda. Aroma is sweet and malty - caramel and molasses. Taste is the same plus plum, wood, and a touch of soy sauce. Alcohol is undetectable, and the mouth feel is solid. Drinkable and enjoyable - good brew. drowland (1380), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 9, 2009 Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a light off-white head. A hint of fig and cherry with a mostly malty bread flavor. None of which is particularly overpowering but decently balanced. Medium bodied. Slightly cream finish with a nominally bitter finish. tgncc (809), Bellmore, New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 4, 2009 Excellent example of the style. Pours a deep red/brown, thick, creamy light brown head. The aroma is beautiful, caramel, brown sugar, malts, bread. The flavor follows, but is less sweet and more bready than the aroma implies. The mouthfeel is thick and creamy, very appropriate for this style. The finish is very low in hop bittering, but leaves a fleeting but pleasant aftertaste. Excellent beer.
